Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about 守山区史迹散策路(善光寺街道と水屋めぐり)

Stay at Hotel Monterey Nagoya, located just a 10-minute walk from the start of the Senkō-ji Street & Mizuya Tour. This modern hotel offers spacious rooms with views of Nagoya Castle and the historic Edo-period water houses along the route. Complimentary parking and shuttle services make it ideal for exploring the Shōsō-ku Heritage Path. Guests can also enjoy a special traditional tea ceremony experience in the hotel’s Japanese-style lounge, featuring locally crafted matcha from the region’s ancient tea houses—perfect for connecting with the area’s Edo-era legacy.

Take the Meitetsu Nagoya Main Line from central Nagoya to Moriyama Station, a 20-minute ride. Exit the station and walk 5 minutes along Senkō-ji Street to reach the starting point of the Mizuya Tour. Alternatively, board the Nagoya City Bus Route 16 and alight at "Moriyama Jinja-mae" stop, then walk 3 minutes. Both options offer scenic views of Edo-period architecture. Use Google Maps or NAVITIME for real-time schedules and optimal routing to ensure a smooth journey.

Must-see landmarks include the Mizuya water houses—Edo-period reservoirs once used for public water supply, now preserved in excellent condition; Senkō-ji Temple, a 400-year-old Buddhist temple housing national treasure wood-carved statues; and the Moriyama Castle Ruins, formerly the stronghold of a general under Oda Nobunaga, now a peaceful memorial park offering panoramic views of the historic district. Signage is available in multiple languages, providing rich context for each site—ideal for cultural immersion.

Participate in the Mizuya Heritage Workshop, where you’ll learn to craft traditional bamboo water buckets used in Edo-era households and try authentic well-drawing techniques. You can also book a Temple Tea Ceremony at Senkō-ji Temple, sipping locally sourced Moriyama matcha brewed with mountain spring water, paired with handmade wagashi sweets. Every Saturday features the Machiya Festival, showcasing Edo-period street life through costumed parades, artisan markets, and local delicacies. Reservations are required—register via the official Moriyama Tourism Association website.

The ideal times to visit are spring (March to May) and autumn (October to November), when the weather is mild and the landscape is enhanced by cherry blossoms and fall foliage—especially stunning around Senkō-ji Temple. Early morning or late afternoon offers fewer crowds and beautiful lighting for photography. Avoid weekends and Golden Week holidays to minimize congestion. Free maps and audio guides are available at the Moriyama Tourism Information Center, helping visitors navigate the trail efficiently.

KKR Hotel Nagoya

Staying at KKR Hotel Nagoya was an absolute delight. The hotel is perfectly located just a short walk from major attractions, and the view of Nagoya Castle from the room is breathtaking—especially during sunset. While there aren’t many shops nearby, the hotel has a small convenience store and vending machines on-site, so you’re never far from essentials. What really stood out was the complimentary parking—huge plus for travelers driving their own vehicles or traveling with family. It made our trip stress-free and incredibly convenient. The overall experience was flawless, and I’d highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Nagoya. A true gem in a great location.

PRINCESS GARDEN HOTEL

This hotel is absolutely fantastic! The location, service, and cleanliness are all top-notch with nothing to complain about. It's super convenient to reach via subway from Nagoya Station, and there are countless great restaurants nearby. I highly recommend a visit to a famous local hitsuji-mushi restaurant—absolutely delicious. Ichiran ramen, Don Quijote, and several department stores are just a short walk away—truly unbeatable for convenience. The highlight has to be the large bath on the 3rd floor. The water is a bit hot, but it’s perfect for unwinding after a long day and really helps relieve stress. While the room amenities aren’t overly extensive, they do include shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, and toothbrush—plus the public bath offers cleansing foam, oil, lotion, and emulsion. Sleepwear is provided, so women or slimmer men won’t need to bring their own, though those with larger builds might find them a bit snug. There’s a microwave and fridge in the room, and the Wi-Fi password is conveniently posted right on the TV. I haven’t tried the breakfast buffet yet, but I can confirm there’s zero cigarette smell and daily room cleaning. Water pressure is just right, and every room comes with a bathtub—what more could you want? Overall, an amazing value for money experience!

There’s also a self-service coffee machine in the lobby where you can grab a cup, read newspapers, or pick up extra amenities. The room was spotlessly clean and well-maintained. Toyoko Inn Nagoya Marunouchi

This business-friendly hotel is a great choice for travelers visiting Nagoya. Even though the rooms are compact, they’re well-equipped with all the essentials, including high-quality toiletries—no need to worry about bringing your own. The location is unbeatable: just a short walk from the subway station, making it easy to get around the city or head to the train station quickly. I’ve noticed many Japanese business travelers staying here, which speaks volumes about its reliability. The only minor downside is the soundproofing—occasional noises from neighboring rooms (like coughing) can be heard at night—but honestly, for under $300 per night in Japan, this is an excellent value. Clean, convenient, and efficient—highly recommend for budget-conscious travelers looking for comfort and practicality.

While it’s a 10-15 minute walk from the nearest subway station—slightly inconvenient but manageable—the rest of the experience is outstanding. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, offering early luggage storage so we could explore the city without carrying our bags. We were able to check in at 2 PM with no issues, which was perfect for our schedule. The hotel itself is quiet and peaceful, making it ideal for solo travelers or anyone looking for a calm retreat. It’s located just steps away from a FamilyMart and surrounded by plenty of dining options—especially great since it’s right in the heart of Sakae. Nagoya Fushimi Mont-Blanc Hotel

Staying at Nagoya Fushimi Mont-Blanc Hotel was a truly enjoyable experience. Located just a short walk from the station, it’s incredibly convenient for exploring the city. Although I couldn’t book a non-smoking room, the smoking room was surprisingly fresh—there was no strong cigarette odor at all. The room was clean, well-maintained, and very comfortable, making my two-night stay relaxing and pleasant. The value for money was excellent, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I’m genuinely sad to hear the hotel will be closing soon—this place had become one of my favorite spots in Nagoya, and I was already planning to visit again. It’s a real loss, but I’ll definitely remember this stay fondly.

Located just a 3-minute walk from Takayama Station—cross the bridge and you're there—it's incredibly convenient for exploring the city. The hotel has a classic charm with a bit of vintage character, but don’t let that fool you: cleanliness is top-notch. The room was exactly as described—spacious enough to fit two large suitcases on the floor, and the bathroom, while compact, is well-designed and spotless. I especially enjoyed the nearby café just across the street; their breakfast set was fantastic—fresh coffee, delicious pastries, and great value. It made my morning so much more enjoyable. Nagoya Sakae Green Hotel

Staying at Nagoya Sakae Green Hotel was a fantastic experience. The location is unbeatable—just a 2-minute walk from Sakae Station, making it super convenient for exploring the city and hopping on the subway. While the street across the hotel has a few late-night establishments, including a host club, the area remains safe and quiet after dark. The room itself is compact but spotlessly clean, with all essentials provided—free toothbrushes, shampoo, bath salts, and more. I also appreciated the free luggage storage, which made my travel day much smoother. Despite its small size, the room felt well-organized and thoughtfully equipped. Overall, this hotel offers great value for money and an excellent base for visiting Nagoya.
