Despite that little surprise, the service was excellent, the location is super convenient (close to subway lines), and the room comfort was top-notch. Breakfast was outstanding—rich in traditional Chinese dim sum, especially the noodle toppings: mushroom, preserved mustard greens, scrambled eggs with tomatoes, and over ten other varieties—all fresh and flavorful. For those sensitive to caffeine, there were plenty of tea options to choose from, which was thoughtful and appreciated. But the real highlight? The famous Jinjiang Peking Duck. The skin turns a perfect amber hue, crisp yet not greasy, served with a house-made dipping sauce that elevates every bite. The scallions are plump, juicy, and sweet—perfect for cutting through the richness. Service was exceptional too. The concierge greeted me warmly and even offered a vintage-style luggage cart to transport me from the VIP Pavilion to Jinbei Building—a small touch, but it added so much character to the experience. Located on the site of the original 1926-era Cathay Apartments (the same owner as Peace Hotel), the building’s white architectural lines remain strikingly elegant. Since its founding by Ms. Dong Zhujun in 1951, the hotel has welcomed hundreds of heads of state from over 20 countries worldwide—earning its reputation as China’s premier guesthouse for international dignitaries.
