The family behind Zigzag Homestay goes above and beyond to make guests feel welcome. From the moment I arrived after a long bus ride from Delhi, I was greeted with warm smiles and a steaming cup of chai. John’s sister prepared a delicious homemade dinner, and we spent hours chatting late into the night with two lovely travelers from Belgium. The next morning, the driver picked me up early for sunrise at the Taj Mahal, where John joined me as a knowledgeable and passionate guide. We enjoyed breakfast at a scenic café, then explored Agra Fort and the Baby Taj—both absolutely worth the visit. Lunch was shared before the driver took me back to the bus stop for my next journey. This wasn’t just a place to stay—it felt like coming home. It’s one of my most cherished travel memories, and I can’t wait to return.

The rooms are spotless, comfortable, well-equipped, and quiet—perfect for unwinding after a long day of exploring. The bedding is excellent, the air conditioning works perfectly, and every detail reflects thoughtfulness for guest comfort. What truly sets this place apart is the family-like atmosphere. Max goes above and beyond, sharing insider tips on how to experience Agra authentically and peacefully. His homemade meals are delicious, comforting, and absolutely perfect after a full day of sightseeing. Another standout feature? He offers trusted local drivers for your trips. We used one to travel to Jaipur, and everything went smoothly—clean car, punctual and courteous driver, safe and stress-free. Overall, Max Guest House delivers an unforgettable, human-centered experience. Taj Square A Luxurious Family Homestay
I actually think this place deserves a 3.5-star rating. On the bright side, it’s exceptionally clean and located in a peaceful residential area, just a short walk from both the Agra Fort and the Taj Mahal—perfect for exploring the city’s highlights. The young staff were genuinely eager to please, which was nice to see, but they’re still learning the ropes when it comes to hospitality. For example, the wardrobe had only one hanger, and there’s no kettle—something that would’ve been helpful since there aren’t any shops nearby. My room rate included breakfast, and there was a menu in the room, so I was really looking forward to trying an authentic Indian option. But the next morning, I wasn’t given any choice—I was just handed a basic omelette and toast, so I didn’t even bother going back. It’s clear they’re on the right track, but a little more attention to guest needs—like offering variety at breakfast or including small conveniences like a kettle—would make a big difference. With a few tweaks, this could easily become a solid 4-star experience. Overall, it’s a good value stay with great potential.

We didn’t stay overnight, but had dinner at the restaurant located on a beautifully maintained rooftop with an incredible view of the Taj Mahal. The ambiance was exceptional—serene, well-designed, and truly special. The food was delicious and surprisingly affordable for the quality, standing out even among other restaurants in Agra. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome throughout the evening. It’s easily one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in the city. If you’re visiting Agra, whether just for a meal or planning to stay, this place is definitely worth a visit—great value, great views, and a memorable atmosphere.

Hotel Shyam Palace
Staying at Hotel Shyam Palace in Agra was an excellent choice, especially due to its unbeatable location—just a short walk from the Taj Mahal entrance. The convenience of being so close to one of the world’s most iconic landmarks made exploring the site effortless and saved us a lot of travel time. The room itself was clean and comfortable, though some facilities felt a bit dated, which is expected for a property with history. Dining in the garden area was unique—the view of playful monkeys added charm and authenticity to the experience. However, service was painfully slow. It took nearly an hour and a half to finish our meal, with long gaps between courses—up to 15 minutes at times. That said, the front desk staff stood out as incredibly friendly and helpful, making up for the restaurant delays. Overall, despite the slow dining service, the hotel’s prime location and warm hospitality make it a strong recommendation for travelers who value proximity to the Taj Mahal and a genuine local feel.

The food is delicious too, with authentic local flavors that truly stand out. Best part? You can walk straight to the Taj Mahal from the hotel, and a quick tuk-tuk ride gets you to Agra Fort. The surrounding neighborhood is full of charm—wander through the little streets, explore local shops, and soak in the vibrant culture. It’s such a convenient and memorable base for exploring Agra. Highly recommended!
