While the room itself is impressive, the real magic lies in the overall experience: staying here feels like rewinding your clock, slowing down, and truly disconnecting. Choose between two pools — one at Villa Verte, another at Maison Noir — both inviting and beautifully set. Breakfast can be enjoyed at either location, and if you’re after a cup of coffee, just ask one of the staff (big thanks to Keith — always so attentive). We opted to dine in for dinner, and simply letting them know was all it took — they delivered a thoughtful menu and served us at the communal table in Maison Noir, creating a warm, shared atmosphere. Want a glass of bubbly? Keith or Prosper will happily oblige. The gym was surprisingly well-equipped — the first I’ve used on holiday that actually felt enjoyable. Steam room? Check. Massage? Makuti Lodge

Words can't truly capture how amazing this place is. If the new owners are even half as kind, welcoming, and genuinely warm-hearted as Doreen Dawson, then Makuti Lodge will remain a gem. We arrived without reservations, and she went above and beyond to help—something I’ll never forget. The lodge itself is breathtaking: lush gardens, pet-friendly (she calls it 'Makuti Lodge is friendly pet'—such a sweet touch!), clean, and perfectly positioned right at the edge of a mountain cliff. Each cottage has its own private garden, and the pool is the perfect spot to unwind after a day exploring. It’s ideally located near Kirstenbosch Gardens and the Constantia wine routes. This isn’t just a stay—it’s an experience. I won’t consider anywhere else when visiting Hout Bay again.

Southern Light Country House

We stayed at Southern Light Country House from March 15th to 21st, and it was an absolutely delightful experience from start to finish. The rooms were spacious, beautifully decorated, and incredibly comfortable—perfect for unwinding after a long day exploring Cape Town. What truly made the stay special was Milo, the resident cat who warmly welcomed us and added a touch of homey charm. Breakfast was outstanding—fresh, hearty, and delicious, giving us the energy we needed to power through our workdays. The two hosts were genuinely warm and attentive, always going the extra mile to make sure we felt welcome and taken care of. Their kindness and attention to detail made all the difference. If you're looking for a peaceful retreat with great hospitality and a cozy atmosphere, this guesthouse is a must-visit. I’d recommend it without hesitation.

On Pinewood Guest House

Staying at On Pinewood Guest House was an absolute highlight of my trip to Cape Town. Nestled right under the mountain, the property offers a serene and breathtaking setting that feels worlds away from the city hustle. The space is beautifully designed with a modern yet cozy touch—especially the open-plan living area, kitchen, and private lounge, which made relaxing or entertaining a breeze. I loved having access to the pool and outdoor seating areas, perfect for morning coffee with a view. Location-wise, it's super convenient for getting around town, whether by public transit or short drives. This isn’t just a place to stay—it’s a real home away from home. 10/10 would book again without hesitation.

Akamah Estate

Akamah Estate is located in Cape Town and boasts a stunning setting with beautifully designed buildings and rooms that really showcase its potential. However, during my stay, I was left somewhat disappointed by the current state of the property. While the architecture and views are impressive, essential amenities are missing—there's no comfortable lounge area, no patio furniture, no fridge in the room, and even no hairdryer provided. It's clear this place functions primarily as a wedding venue, which creates challenges for other guests: the atmosphere can feel restricted, and there’s limited privacy or flexibility in shared spaces. The lack of basic comforts makes the experience less enjoyable than it could be. With more investment in guest facilities and better management of non-wedding bookings, Akamah Estate could become a standout destination. As it stands, though, the current offering doesn't match the promise of its beautiful surroundings.
