Staying at Thompson Madrid was an absolute highlight of my trip to Spain. From the moment I walked in, the front desk staff were incredibly warm and welcoming—by far the friendliest hotel team I encountered throughout my entire journey. They chatted with us like old friends, even handed out a welcome drink that turned out to be a cocktail—surprisingly delicious and a nice surprise! The room itself was spacious by European standards, especially the bathroom, which felt more like a luxury suite than a standard hotel room. The amenities were top-notch: high-quality toiletries with a subtle, refreshing scent, and the bar cabinet was stylish and well-designed. We also received a thoughtful welcome gift—a bottle of local olive oil, very authentic. One of the best things? The soundproofing—completely silent from the hallway, so no noise disturbances at all. The only downside is the location: while central and convenient, the area around the hotel can feel chaotic at night. There are lots of tourists mixed with some suspicious characters hanging around narrow alleys, and as someone of Asian descent, I felt noticeably more vulnerable. For safety, I’d strongly recommend taking taxis instead of walking, especially after dark—don’t risk it for a few euros saved. Overall, this hotel delivers exceptional value, stunning design, and outstanding service. A must-stay if you're visiting Madrid.
Ilunion Pio XII
The Ilunion Pio XII hotel offers a clean, well-maintained environment and a solid breakfast selection—both are definitely highlights. That said, the location is quite far from the city center and main attractions. If you're only staying for one or two nights, it might be better to choose a place closer to the action. The good news? Bus line 150 stops right outside the hotel and goes directly to Puerta del Sol with no transfers, making public transit a convenient option. Just keep in mind that taxis in Madrid are extremely expensive—my ride from the hotel to the city center cost over €30, which isn’t ideal for short stays. Overall, this hotel works better for longer visits when you’re looking to save on transport costs and don’t mind a bit of distance. For travelers prioritizing convenience and budget, especially those planning to explore on foot or by bus, this place offers great value.

Despite having 7 floors and somewhat old-fashioned elevators, they work perfectly fine and don’t hinder the experience at all. The real highlight is the unbeatable location—situated right between two metro stations (Gran Via and Sevilla), with a bus stop just outside the door. It’s only a 3-minute walk to Primark, and you can reach Plaza Mayor, along with the famous Bear and Strawberry Tree monument, in under 15 minutes on foot. Perfect for exploring Madrid’s city center without needing a car. Great value, excellent convenience, and a top choice for travelers who want both comfort and accessibility.
