Casa 48 Guesthouse

Our family stay at Casa 48 was absolutely unforgettable. The warm and welcoming hospitality from Valentin and Félix made us feel right at home. We even celebrated New Year’s Eve together with the hosts in a truly unique and cozy atmosphere—so much charm and genuine connection. The location is perfect for exploring Rio, especially starting from Santa Teresa. You can walk or hop on a quick metro ride to reach various neighborhoods. And the view? Absolutely breathtaking—Rio spreads out before you like a postcard. It’s not just a place to sleep; it’s an experience. Highly recommend this gem to anyone looking for authenticity, comfort, and heartwarming moments.

Mambembe Hostel

The hostel has a spacious and welcoming vibe with plenty of room to relax and socialize. The double room was nicely decorated and made for a comfortable stay. However, I'm disappointed with the lack of communication and refund after canceling my booking—despite promises, I waited over three months with no response or resolution. It's also worth noting that safety concerns mean you’ll need to rely on Uber to get around at night, which adds extra cost and inconvenience. While the location and atmosphere are decent, poor customer service significantly impacts the overall experience.

Da Lapa Design Hotel - Hostel

This place is absolutely stunning! The Da Lapa Design Hotel - Hostel has a fresh, modern vibe with brand-new facilities throughout. My Junior Suite felt like a mini apartment—complete with a fridge, cooktop, and all the kitchen essentials. It’s perfect for travelers who want to prepare their own meals. The staff were incredibly friendly, especially Luciano at reception—he went above and beyond to help. I’d highly recommend this spot for solo female travelers; it feels safe with plenty of security cameras in common areas. Right on the street, you’ve got a grocery store, a bakery, and within just 80 meters, there’s a bar (Bar da Lapa), subway station, burger joint, and two restaurants—great for exploring without walking far. The only downside? It gets pretty lively and noisy starting Wednesday night due to the nearby bars. But overall, the location, comfort, and atmosphere make up for it. A top choice if you're looking for style, convenience, and a welcoming vibe in Rio.

Books Hostel

Nestled right in the vibrant heart of Lapa, Books Hostel is an unbeatable spot for solo travelers looking to connect and explore. Just a short walk or affordable ride away, you're steps from Santa Teresa's charming streets, the iconic Sugarloaf Mountain, and the beautiful beaches. The atmosphere is welcoming and safe—everyone feels at home. Staff are incredibly helpful, always ready with local tips and recommendations. It’s not just a place to stay; it’s an experience you’ll want to keep going back to. Hard to leave, but absolutely worth every moment.

Residencial Santa Teresa

We truly felt at home from the moment we arrived. The guesthouse delivers exactly what it promises—simple, warm, and thoughtfully done. The beds were comfortable, the air conditioning worked perfectly, and the shower provided excellent water pressure. Breakfast was delicious, and the small pool was a perfect spot to relax after a day exploring. Special thanks to the hosts Jaison, Cristina, and especially Beth, who kindly prepared a breakfast pack for us since we had to leave early for the Rio Marathon. That little touch made our trip even more memorable. Location-wise, it's unbeatable—just a short walk (under 500 meters) from the lively Lapa neighborhood and the famous Selaron Steps, yet the street itself is quiet and residential, offering peace and privacy. One thing to note: if you have mobility issues, be aware that the rooms are accessed via stairs, though parking is easy and accessible by car. Overall, this place exceeded our expectations. We’re already planning to return with our family.

Casa da Gente

Staying at Casa da Gente felt like coming home after a long day of exploring Rio. We were here for 10 days and couldn’t have asked for more—the kitchen with a fridge was a game-changer, letting us prepare meals and come and go freely while respecting other guests’ space. Breakfast was perfectly portioned to fuel up for full days of sightseeing. The location is unbeatable—just steps from Lapa and the city center, and you can even walk to Botafogo Beach. For other beaches, we took Uber/99, which ended up being more convenient than public transit, especially considering the steep hills and our luggage. Pro tip: request your ride right after descending the stairs—drivers usually respond faster since the neighborhood sits on a hill in Santa Teresa. This area is absolutely magical, with breathtaking views and a peaceful vibe. I’d definitely stay here again if ever back in Rio.

Rio Forest Hostel

My stay at Rio Forest Hostel was absolutely fantastic! The team was incredibly friendly and offered great local tips—everything from public transit options and where to grab delicious food, to getting a SIM card and finding ATMs. It’s also a perfect place to meet fellow travelers and share stories. Breakfast was just average—not bad, but nothing special. That said, the stairs are a real workout, so you’ll definitely stay active during your visit! Overall, the hostel is clean, welcoming, and offers excellent value for money. If you’re looking for a relaxed yet social atmosphere in Rio, this is a top choice.

Ibis Budget Rio de Janeiro Centro

The location is excellent—just a short walk from theaters, restaurants, and lively bars. The hotel is clean, well-maintained, and offers amazing value for money. I appreciated how easy it was to explore the city center on foot, with plenty of dining and entertainment options nearby. Despite being a budget-friendly option, the quality of the stay exceeded my expectations. A fantastic choice if you're looking for comfort and convenience without breaking the bank.

Hospedagem Municipal

I booked this place through a platform expecting a basic, budget-friendly option to rest for a few hours before my connecting flight. It’s not really a tourist accommodation—it serves another purpose entirely. The room is extremely small, barely 2m x 3m—about the size of a standard bathroom—and with a ceiling height of only around 2 meters, it felt claustrophobic. There are two outlets in the room—one at the fan and one at the TV—but since the fan must stay on (due to strong cigarette smell), I had to charge my phone from the TV outlet. The back of the closet was piled with trash—paper, dust, cigarette ash—very unsanitary. The tiny window faces the hallway with no natural ventilation, so noise from other rooms and hallways seeps through easily. The shared bathroom lacked soap, hand towels, and even a sink—just a basin outside where you can wash your hands. The mattress looked old and worn, with a waterproof cover that was cracked and peeling. The overall space feels like someone repurposed a floor into two levels with poor construction standards. Ceiling height violates local regulations (minimum 2.7m required), and I highly doubt they have a valid operating permit. Safety measures, fire prevention, and hygiene don’t meet basic legal requirements. Honestly, this isn’t suitable for travelers—only an absolute last resort.

Andorinha Hotel (Adults Only)

My stay at Andorinha Hotel (Adults Only) was extremely disappointing. I requested breakfast for 10 a.m., but the front desk staff couldn’t even process such a simple request—no follow-up, no communication, just silence. It’s a clear sign of poor training and lack of supervision. To make matters worse, the housekeeping staff acted with outright rudeness, even taking it upon themselves to 'handle complaints' like an unofficial ombudsman. That kind of attitude is not just unprofessional—it’s disrespectful. The hotel’s quiet, private atmosphere might appeal to some, but without basic service standards, it feels more like neglect than exclusivity. For a place marketed as adults-only, the experience felt anything but mature or welcoming. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, there are far better options that actually deliver on service.

Rio Boutique Suites

This place is the perfect escape from the city's hustle and bustle. I'm a local, and after weeks of nonstop routine, I just needed to disconnect—and this stay delivered exactly that. The historic mansion is full of charming details and cultural touches, yet it seamlessly blends with modern comforts. The room is spacious, airy, and impeccably equipped—everything worked flawlessly. The linens were soft, fresh, and smelled wonderful. Breakfast was exceptional: delicious, varied, and thoughtfully prepared. I left feeling completely recharged. I’ll definitely be back—this time with my whole family. A truly unforgettable experience.

Bella Ciao Hostel

Staying at Bella Ciao Hostel in Rio de Janeiro was one of the most memorable experiences I've had on my trip. The location is unbeatable—just a short walk from the metro and super close to everything worth seeing. The hostel offers incredible value for money, with clean, cozy rooms and a welcoming vibe that makes you feel right at home. The common lounge is perfect for working during the day or hanging out in the evening with board games, movies, and great conversations. The staff and regular guests are genuinely warm and friendly—they go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your time in the neighborhood and the city. Special shoutout to Saulo, the owner—he’s incredibly kind, always available, and truly cares about everyone’s well-being. It’s clear he runs this place with heart. I left feeling like I’d made new friends and discovered a hidden gem. Definitely coming back, and I’ll be bringing my travel buddies next time.
