Staying at House on York was an absolute delight from start to finish. The location is perfect—just a short walk from the city center, with easy access to public transport and all the local buzz. As soon as you step into the courtyard, you're greeted by a peaceful, thoughtfully designed space that sets the tone for a relaxing stay. The room itself was cozy, well-appointed, and warmly decorated—feels like home away from home. What truly surprised me was finding a small fitness corner tucked in the garden; it’s such a thoughtful touch for guests who want to stay active without leaving the property. The staff went above and beyond—everyone, from front desk team to the manager and even the owner, was incredibly friendly and welcoming. On one evening, the area lost power, and instead of leaving us in the dark, the manager personally brought over two LED lanterns. It was such a considerate gesture that made a big difference. Special shoutout to Tino—he was consistently helpful, professional, and genuinely kind. This place isn’t just a hotel; it’s a true home base with heart. I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting Johannesburg, and I’ll definitely be back.
Muco Guest House
This was the fifth time during my trip that my flight was delayed on departure. Upon arrival, as usual, two men approached me asking if I needed a taxi. I explained I already had a pre-arranged ride, and they called the driver who confirmed he was on his way. Surprisingly, they then asked for payment for 'helping' me—quite unusual, but it happened. The guesthouse is located a bit outside the airport, within a gated complex. It was quite chilly this time of year, so Felix (the driver) kindly took me to a clothing store to pick up a flannel shirt—huge place, great selection. The property itself is impressive: spacious kitchen, large living area, and a well-sized bathroom. There are two pools and a communal meeting space at the office. Breakfast was homemade—fresh bread, cereal, and beverages—all very satisfying. Felix also arranged my tours, which I could charge directly to my room, making everything super convenient. If you head out from the main road, turn right onto the next major street, then left, go up two roads—you’ll find a gas station, restaurants, and shops nearby, so all essentials are close by. The safari tour I went on was about two hours away, but absolutely worth it—great experience! The heater only reached 30°C, and the fan wasn’t very strong, so the room warmed up slowly, but overall, it didn’t detract from the stay. Great location, friendly staff, and excellent value—highly recommend!

Absolutely thrilled with my stay at Sandton Farmhouse! Nestled just outside Johannesburg, it’s the perfect blend of tranquility and convenience. The moment I walked in, I felt like I was escaping to a peaceful countryside retreat—quiet, clean, and beautifully designed. My room was spacious, cozy, and had everything I needed, including a small kitchenette which made self-catering super easy. The staff went above and beyond—friendly, attentive, and always ready to help. Even though it’s a bit off the beaten path, getting into the city center via public transit took less than 30 minutes. It’s rare to find such a peaceful yet well-connected place. For the price, this is an unbeatable value. 10/10 without hesitation—I’ll definitely be back!

Staying at Miraton Guest Lodge was an absolute highlight of my trip to Johannesburg! The hospitality truly went above and beyond—warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. From the moment I arrived, the hosts were there to greet me, help with luggage, and even gave personalized tips on local spots, including a hidden gem of a BBQ place that turned out to be one of the best meals I’ve had in South Africa. The room was immaculate, comfortable, and quiet—the bed was perfect for a good night’s sleep, and the AC worked flawlessly without any noise. It’s located just steps away from the subway, making downtown access super easy. What stood out most was how personal and thoughtful the experience felt, like staying with friends rather than a hotel. If you’re visiting Johannesburg, this is hands-down my top recommendation. A true gem!

We stayed for four nights at Houghton Guest House, and overall, it was a peaceful and quiet experience—perfect if you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle. The bed was comfortable and cozy, though the bottom sheet had a small hole (nothing major). Room size was just right, with a compact but functional mini-fridge that's a bit old-school, plus tea and coffee-making facilities. WiFi worked well, and MNet connectivity was reliable. The decor felt a little dated, and some items needed attention—like the shower door and bathroom light—but nothing too disruptive. There’s plenty of closet space and a mini safe for valuables. The shower itself is spacious and delivers strong hot water, which is always a win. The property is gated with an electric fence, and night-time security is on duty. All doors are secured with key cards—great for peace of mind. Located in a central spot, it’s convenient for exploring Johannesburg, and we were the only guests during our stay, so privacy was excellent. Breakfast is prepared by Semi, the owner, who charges R100 per person (£5). It includes scrambled eggs, bacon, frankfurters, toast, and unlimited tea or coffee. She cooks on a stove that’s clearly not up to standard—evidence that maintenance isn’t a priority—but her dedication shines through. Semi handles everything: front desk, cleaning, laundry, gate duties, even helping guests with their clothes. She’s shy, humble, and incredibly honest. She’ll happily do your laundry too—just be generous with your tip, as she earns very little. We paid R2000 for four nights, which feels fair given the personal touch and quiet atmosphere. There’s also a shared lounge area with tables and chairs where you can enjoy breakfast or relax. A big thank you to Semi for all your hard work, kindness, and genuine hospitality—it truly makes this guest house special.

Staying at Shengtang Business Hotel in Johannesburg's Chinatown was an absolute highlight of my trip. The location is unbeatable—right in the heart of the bustling Chinese community, just about 7.5 km from the airport. The hotel offers a convenient airport transfer service that made my arrival stress-free. Step outside and you're surrounded by authentic Chinese restaurants—Fisherman's Island, Shunde Restaurant, Wagan Family, Wangjiao Dining, Chongqing Hotpot, and Northeast Dumplings all within walking distance. Need groceries? The Wanfu Lai supermarket has everything from fresh produce to pantry staples, including a wide selection of teas. Everything I needed for daily life was just steps away. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, with excellent value for money. Safety, convenience, and authenticity—it’s rare to find all three in one place. If you’re visiting Johannesburg and want to feel at home while experiencing real Chinese culture, this hotel is a must-try.

A special thank you to the team who opened the back gate daily, making our departure to Rosebank’s green heart so convenient. The pool, though cool, was a welcome refreshment after a long day. Even with minor renovations underway, there was zero disruption to our comfort or experience. The ambiance was calm and inviting, and the location offered easy access to local attractions. This hotel truly stands out for its service, cleanliness, and attention to detail. We’ll definitely be back.

The rooms are spacious—definitely more than average—and the underground parking is a huge plus for convenience and security.
