This resort is truly impressive—spacious, beautifully designed, and deeply immersed in nature. The service stands out from the moment you arrive. Faraaz was incredibly welcoming and helpful during check-in; I arrived early, and he personally made sure I could check into my room ahead of schedule, which was a thoughtful touch. The setting is absolutely stunning—nestled against the hills and surrounded by lush greenery, it feels like a hidden paradise. There are plenty of activities within the resort grounds, and nearby attractions like the skybridge and Oriental Village are just a short shuttle ride away (the resort offers complimentary one-way transfers). While the room itself shows signs of age, the housekeeping team does an outstanding job—everything was spotless, no unpleasant odors, and the bed was wonderfully comfortable. The only minor issue was small gaps around the door that allowed geckos to enter. One large one even made the bathroom its home! Thankfully, the front desk was responsive, and security came late at night to assist with the search, though it had already disappeared. The next day, I spotted another one sneaking through the gap—there’s a brush at the bottom of the door, but it doesn’t seal completely. I improvised with towels until I found a better solution. I understand this is a nature-rich environment, so these little creatures will always find a way in. Breakfast was exceptional—hands down the most hardworking team I’ve ever seen in all my travels. They greet guests, seat everyone, and still go above and beyond for latecomers, waiting patiently even if people linger over a leisurely meal. The food quality is top-notch and delicious. Overall, it was a wonderful stay. Pro tip: Make a reservation for Phan Thai in advance—aim for 6:30 PM. You’ll get the best views as the sky turns into golden hues before sunset, and it’s much quieter than after 7:40 when it gets busy—even though it’s still bright out.

The wooden cottage has a lot of character, but the reality was far from comfortable. We were constantly bothered by mosquitoes—so bad that we couldn’t sleep at all. It felt more like sleeping outside than inside, with open windows and no real protection from the elements, wind, noise, or insects. To make matters worse, the first unit we were assigned was extremely dirty—dusty furniture, spider webs in corners, and even mouse droppings. We had no bedding to sleep on and had to wait until nearly 11 PM before getting any. The worst part? My 4-year-old daughter ended up with severe mosquito bites on her face, leaving visible marks. That experience was deeply upsetting and completely unacceptable. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, especially families. It’s not worth the price, and definitely not something I’d ever book again.

My top pick was Rest. Selera Padang Puteh across from G Seafood, famous for their Roti Canai priced at just MYR1.20 (£0.20)—crispy, flaky, and absolutely delicious. The kitchen was well-equipped with filtered water dispensers offering cold, room-temperature, and boiling water, plus tea and sugar regularly replenished. The property is tucked back from the main road, so it’s wonderfully quiet—perfect for restful sleep. One small note: no microwave during our stay, but we noticed they had just ordered one the day we left—so hopefully that’ll be available soon. While the surrounding area has some open drainage and early morning announcements from nearby speakers (not the hotel’s fault), these didn’t detract much from the overall experience. This place offers comfort, cleanliness, and a peaceful vibe at an unbeatable price—highly recommend for travelers who value authenticity and good value.
