Staying at Holiday Inn Shanghai Nanjing Road was an absolute delight! The staff, especially Violet and Leo at the front desk, were incredibly warm, attentive, and went above and beyond to make our visit memorable. From check-in to check-out, their professionalism and kindness made us feel truly welcomed. The room was spotless, quiet, and comfortably furnished—perfect for a relaxing stay after a day exploring the city. The location is unbeatable: stepping out the window, you’re greeted by the vibrant energy of Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street, with its dazzling lights and bustling atmosphere. We visited during New Year’s Day, and the festive vibe added extra magic to the experience. This hotel offers excellent value and convenience in one of Shanghai’s most iconic areas. I’ve passed by this hotel countless times while commuting, always dreaming of staying here—and finally made it happen. The moment I stepped into the grand lobby with its soaring ceiling and dazzling crystal chandelier, I knew this was going to be special. The property sits on nearly 60,000 square meters of private garden, making it feel like a hidden European estate right in the heart of bustling Shanghai. From the very first greeting, the service was exceptional—Esther from front desk went above and beyond: upgraded our room, offered a two-hour late check-out without hesitation, and even shared her WeChat for easy communication. That kind of personal touch is rare. Breakfast was an absolute highlight—huge variety, beautifully presented. From freshly steamed dim sum and handmade noodles to a wide selection of breads, oatmeal, fresh fruit, yogurt, and even ice cream, every detail was thoughtfully curated. But what truly stole the show was the garden. Lush green lawns, mature trees casting dappled sunlight, historic buildings nestled among foliage—perfect for quiet strolls or Instagram-worthy shots. Every corner feels like a scene from a film. The pool is clean and refreshingly salty—almost like swimming in the sea! Plus, there are two hot tubs nearby, perfect for unwinding. The changing rooms are spacious, with full amenities including a sauna, steam room, and even a lounge area with TV where you can just lie back and relax. This might be the most comfortable five-star experience I’ve ever had. Security staff were friendly and attentive throughout, adding to that welcoming, home-away-from-home feeling. You can easily walk to People's Square, Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street, The Bund, Jing'an Temple, Wukang Road, Song Qingling Residence, Sun Yat-sen’s Former Home, Tianzi Fang, and even the Shanghai Natural History Museum or Cai Yuanpei’s Former Residence—all within a pleasant walking distance. Along the way, you’ll pass charming old shikumen homes, cozy cafes, boutique shops, and historic landmarks, making every stroll feel like a little adventure through Shanghai’s soul. The hotel’s lush garden on the south side is a peaceful retreat—perfect for unwinding in the middle of the bustling city. While some facilities show their age, everything is well-maintained and blends beautifully with Shanghai’s classic charm. Service is exceptional—attentive, thoughtful, and clearly influenced by Japanese hospitality standards. Even the hallway has that subtle, calming Japanese aesthetic. Breakfast is a highlight too, offering authentic Japanese touches like natto and miso soup, alongside a wide variety of other options. It’s rare to find such a well-balanced mix of location, atmosphere, service, and comfort. This place truly delivers on every level—highly recommended for anyone looking to experience the heart of Shanghai the right way.
