Umekoji Potel Kyoto
This was my second stay at this hotel, and honestly, it’s easily the most spacious room I’ve ever experienced in Japan. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt calm and luxurious. The exterior design is sleek and modern, giving off a very refined vibe. One of the highlights? A dedicated free onsen area with multiple baths, including massage jets—perfect for unwinding after a long day. There’s also a complimentary drink and snack lounge, plus a quiet music appreciation room where I just sat and relaxed with some tunes. My room’s balcony offered stunning views—nighttime moonlight scenes and morning sunrises over the cityscape were absolutely peaceful. The on-site restaurant serves excellent food, though prices are a bit on the higher side. Still, if they could adjust pricing slightly, it would be even more appealing. Location-wise, it’s incredibly convenient—just a short walk or quick taxi ride from Kyoto Station. Overall, an unforgettable experience with great value, and I’d definitely come back.

Staying at The GrandWest Arashiyama was hands down the best part of my 7-day trip to Kyoto! I couldn’t be more satisfied—this place truly stood out in comfort, space, and vibe. While it’s a bit farther from the JR station (a 10-minute taxi ride), it’s super close to Hankyu Arashiyama Station, making it easy to reach on foot. The neighborhood is peaceful and quiet, especially at night—no noise, no crowds, just fresh air and cool mountain breeze. The hotel itself is spotless, modern, and well-maintained. I loved that we could rent bikes right on-site—perfect for exploring nearby attractions like the iconic Togetsukyo Bridge, the bamboo grove, and Tenryu-ji Temple without needing to rely on transport. Oh, and the day-use onsen? Only ¥65 per person, and it’s worth every yen—especially with its serene outdoor courtyard. Two restaurants stand out: one requires advance booking, and the other, Kijūrō’s beef bowl, was absolutely delicious—rich, savory, and perfectly cooked. I’ll definitely come back here whenever I visit Kyoto again.

I accidentally left my headphones behind, and instead of just waiting for me to notice, they reached out immediately and arranged to send them back to Tokyo—such a thoughtful gesture! It really made the experience stand out. Located right near Shijo Kawaramachi, everything is within walking distance, and the overall vibe is cozy yet modern. I felt very safe even returning late at night since the hotel sits right next to a main road with good visibility. The free public bathhouse was a real highlight—clean, relaxing, and well-maintained. They even provide complimentary pajamas and extra toiletries like makeup remover and cotton pads, which shows great attention to detail. The lunch buffet was impressive, especially the homemade tofu—it was fresh, flavorful, and offered excellent value. The coin laundry machine runs at just 400 yen per cycle, making it affordable and convenient for longer stays. Overall, this place delivers on every front: comfort, cleanliness, location, and thoughtful touches. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Kyoto.

Plus, there’s a well-known yakiniku restaurant right around the corner, perfect for a delicious post-check-in meal. While it’s slightly quieter than the bustling Shijo area, this hotel strikes the perfect balance between tranquility and accessibility. Everything about our stay was absolutely perfect—from the moment we arrived to the last goodbye. The real magic came from Shin and Shohei, who embody Japanese hospitality in every way. From a seamless check-in process to answering every question with warmth and patience, they went above and beyond. They even helped plan a custom itinerary complete with Google Maps, arranged a private matcha tea ceremony, secured fantastic dinner reservations, and ensured everything was spotless and welcoming. No request was too small, and their kindness made us feel like family. The ryokan itself is stunning—a beautifully restored traditional Kyoto townhouse with modern comforts seamlessly integrated. We especially loved our private Zen garden and the onsen tub, which offered the perfect retreat after exploring the city. The beds were spacious and incredibly comfortable—sleeping like babies all night long. If you're planning a trip to Kyoto, look no further. This is hands down the best experience we’ve had, and we can’t recommend it enough.

What truly sets this hotel apart is its public bathhouse, complete with a hot spring pool, sauna, and wellness area. Coming back tired from a day out, soaking in the warm waters was pure bliss. On-site dining options and convenience stores make meals and snacks super easy. Even the smallest details show thoughtfulness—the bathroom has dual sinks, a separate toilet area, a small faucet, and a hand towel, giving a high-end, spa-like feel. If you value cleanliness, comfort, and location, this hotel is absolutely worth considering. It’s not just a place to sleep—it’s a true retreat in the heart of Kyoto.

Location-wise, it’s incredibly convenient—just a short walk from the subway, with plenty of supermarkets nearby. Right across the street is KOMEDA, and there are countless restaurants and cafés within walking distance, making dining options diverse and fun. The room is spacious enough, spotlessly clean, and comes with all the essentials you’d need. I truly appreciate the thoughtful touches and overall comfort. If I ever return to Kyoto, this will be my first choice again—excellent value, great vibe, and a wonderful stay every time.
