Staying at Hotel Hari Vilaas in Varanasi was a mixed experience, but overall, it’s still a solid choice for the price. The staff were welcoming and security at the entrance was reassuring. The on-site restaurant offers a wide variety of affordable meals, and I had no issues with food hygiene—everything tasted fresh and safe. The Wi-Fi was consistently strong, and hot water was available 24/7, which is a big plus in this part of India. That said, there were some noticeable room and housekeeping shortcomings. The duvet cover was visibly worn and shedding lint—definitely needs replacing. Upon arrival, the toilet paper roll was damp and dirty, which was off-putting. Housekeeping collected my used towels but forgot to bring clean ones—had to ask at reception to fix it. Shower gel and shampoo in individual bottles were empty and never refilled. The tap was in poor condition, causing water to spill over when turned on, and the shower had no curtain, leaving the entire bathroom soaked every time. Also, there was no fridge in the room. Despite these flaws, I’d still say this place offers good value compared to other options in Varanasi. If you’re prepared for minor inconveniences and don’t mind a few rough edges, it’s worth considering.

The owner speaks excellent Japanese and comes across as genuinely warm and attentive—so easy to chat with. I booked a morning guided tour, and he went above and beyond with detailed explanations and local insights. One highlight was the chai shop he recommended—it’s his regular spot, and honestly, the best cup of tea I had during my entire trip. Rich, aromatic, and perfectly balanced. I left feeling not just satisfied, but truly welcomed. Would love to host him in Japan someday—this place truly feels like home away from home.

The service stood out in particular—special thanks to Arvind Yadav and Lovey Dubey, who went above and beyond with their warm hospitality and prompt assistance throughout our visit. Breakfast was a highlight too—fresh, delicious, and featuring authentic local flavors that truly added to the experience. Located just steps from the metro, getting around the city was super easy. With its great location, attentive staff, and overall comfort, this hotel offers incredible value. I’d happily return and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Varanasi.
