Staying at Cambria Hotel Austin Downtown was a refreshing experience, especially given its location right in the middle of the ongoing revitalization near Rainey Street—a historic area where old homes have been transformed into vibrant entertainment spots. The hotel stands out with its modern, innovative design and calming ambiance, offering a peaceful contrast to the lively street scene across the way. While parking runs $49 per day with valet-only access, we didn’t rent a car since our plans centered around walking and using local transit—perfect for visiting family, including my son and his kids. The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful, always ready to answer questions or share insights about the neighborhood changes. We appreciated the water stations throughout the property—simple but thoughtful touches. That said, there’s room for improvement in room pricing, menu options, and the operating hours of the lobby bar and rooftop lounge, especially since staffing felt stretched during our stay. Getting to Rainey Street required a short walk through a back alley, which slightly disrupted the serene vibe the hotel aims to maintain. For hotels like this one, integrating more in-house entertainment experiences alongside smoother valet services could greatly enhance guest satisfaction and value. Overall, it's a lovely place—great pool atmosphere, clean gym, and a convenient first-floor lounge ideal for casual meetups. With some tweaks to pricing, service hours, and guest flow, this could easily become a full-circle staycation favorite. Ultimately, balancing new development with support for local, grassroots businesses is key to ensuring both visitors and longtime residents enjoy a seamless, authentic Austin experience.

Our stay at Scottish Inns Austin Downtown was disappointing, to say the least. We were shocked to find numerous baby roaches in the bathroom—definitely not what you expect from a hotel. The sink had major drainage issues; as soon as we turned on the water, it started flooding within seconds. The bathtub floor was cracked in several places, and the shower curtain rod was half broken, making it impossible to keep the curtain closed. Water constantly spilled onto the floor, creating a slippery mess. The sheets and blankets were in terrible condition—covered in small burn marks and tears, clearly showing years of neglect. There were also multiple poorly patched areas on the walls, indicating past damage that was never properly repaired. Overall, the room felt extremely run-down. It was only barely worth the low rate we paid. If we’d known about the condition beforehand, we definitely would’ve chosen a different place. For travelers looking for cleanliness and comfort, this property isn’t recommended.

I’d definitely consider returning, especially if they can improve on the quietness of the AC system.

The amenities are top-notch: the coffee bar offers great brews, and the on-site diner serves delicious breakfast options. My only small suggestion would be extending the hours for the coffee bar and restaurant a bit later in the evening—since I returned late, I’d have loved a quick bite or coffee before bed. That said, everything else was perfect. Great location, easy access to downtown Austin, and fantastic value for money. Definitely planning to come back.
