Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Fudo Hot Spring

Yamano-yu Fudō Onsen is a top recommendation, a traditional ryokan located right in the heart of the hot spring district. It features wooden architecture, private open-air baths, and rooms with authentic Japanese aesthetics offering views of the surrounding mountains. Guests enjoy daily kaiseki cuisine made from local ingredients, along with an on-site foot bath area for relaxation.

Another excellent option is Tsukinoyu Annex, a modern minimalist retreat blending natural materials and serene design, perfect for those seeking tranquility. Both properties are century-old establishments preserving Fudō Onsen’s rich heritage and unique bathing culture. Accessible via bus from Kyoto Station in about 30 minutes, they offer ideal convenience for travelers exploring the region.

The most convenient way to reach Fudō Onsen from Kyoto Station is by taking a city bus or Kintetsu Bus, transferring at the "Ogura" stop to the "Fudō Onsen-guchi" or "Fudō Onsen-mae" station—journey time is approximately 30 to 40 minutes. Some routes offer direct service, so checking schedules online beforehand is recommended.

For comfort and flexibility, taxis are available—about 25 minutes, costing ¥3,000–¥4,000, ideal for groups or travelers with luggage. Alternatively, driving is straightforward, with clear signage and free parking available at most inns, making it a great option for self-guided exploration.

Fudō Onsen is famed for its mild alkaline carbonated springs, with clear water and a comfortable temperature around 42°C, known for skin-soothing benefits. Beyond soaking, guests can try traditional herbal baths, where seasonal botanical packs are infused into the tubs for aromatic therapy.

Many ryokan offer nighttime open-air baths under the stars, creating a dreamlike atmosphere. Visitors can also participate in kimono experiences, strolling through the historic onsen streets in yukata for picturesque photos. Additionally, tea ceremony workshops are available, teaching Japanese tea etiquette while sipping matcha brewed with Fudō spring water. These culturally immersive activities enrich the journey beyond relaxation.

Staying at Hotel the Mitsui Kyoto was an absolute delight. From the moment I walked in, the service was exceptional—warm, attentive, and seamless. The room was incredibly comfortable, with a plush bed that made it easy to unwind after a busy week in Shanghai. I’m already looking forward to returning in autumn when the maple trees turn vibrant red. The location is perfect for exploring Kyoto, with easy access to public transit. What truly stood out was how quickly and efficiently the platform and hotel responded to my inquiries—every question was answered within half an hour, making the entire experience stress-free. It’s reassuring to know you can rely on such prompt support while traveling abroad. This stay exceeded all expectations, and I’d definitely book again without hesitation.

The Westin Miyako Kyoto

The Westin Miyako Kyoto truly lives up to its reputation—excellent quality and service throughout. Located in eastern Kyoto, it’s just a short walk from Exit 2 of the Keihan Subway's Katsuyama Station, making access super convenient. One of the highlights is the on-site hot spring bath—definitely worth trying if you’re looking to unwind. My initial room was near the street and a bit noisy, but after speaking with the front desk, they quickly arranged a room change. Special thanks to Mr. Yamane and another staff member who looked like a young Hikaru Nakamura (I mean, a little like Hikaru Nakamura—just kidding!)—they were incredibly helpful and polite. The hotel also offers a direct shuttle to Kyoto Station, departing at 8:00 AM on weekends and holidays, and 9:00 AM on weekdays, with departures every hour at :10 and :40—only 25 minutes to the station, perfect for travelers. Daily housekeeping kept the room spotless, just as clean as when I first arrived, and they even included calming essential oils each day. Breakfast was outstanding—especially the homemade onigiri corner, where a cheerful lady made some of the most delicious rice balls I’ve ever had. It’s definitely worth waking up early for. Overall, this hotel delivers comfort, convenience, and genuine hospitality—highly recommended!

The Westin Miyako Kyoto (KASUI-EN)

Staying in the Kasui-En room was an absolute delight. Nestled deep within a serene forest, the hotel offers a peaceful retreat where you can truly disconnect and reconnect with nature. The staff went above and beyond—warm, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful. I especially appreciated the nightly turndown service and the little treats left in the room each evening. The onsen was perfectly relaxing, and the breakfast at the restaurant, along with the complimentary snacks at the executive lounge, were both delicious and well-presented. One of my favorite moments was waking up early to hike the small hill behind the property—fresh air, birdsong, and a quiet morning vibe that instantly lifted my mood. It’s also just a short walk from Nanzen-ji Temple, making it easy to explore nearby cultural spots. This is a perfect choice for families or anyone seeking a calm, authentic Kyoto experience. Marufukuro

As a Nintendo fan, this hidden gem in Kyoto is a must-visit! Tucked away in a quiet alley, it’s a 15-minute walk from the JR station—perfect for a leisurely stroll through local streets. What stood out was the evening snack service with warm rice balls and small treats, plus access to both the lounge and library, ideal for unwinding or reading. The breakfast was decent but nothing special. However, the staff truly made the difference—one team member spoke fluent Chinese and offered incredibly warm, attentive service that made me feel right at home. And of course, you can’t miss the historic Marufukuro building itself; its centuries-old charm adds so much character to the stay. It’s not just a hotel—it’s an experience. Great value, great vibe, and perfect for travelers wanting a quiet yet authentic Kyoto escape.

Soraniwa Terrace Kyoto Bettei

Absolutely stunning! The Soraniwa Terrace Kyoto Bettei is perfectly located right across from Takashimaya, offering a peaceful retreat in the heart of Kyoto. After a long day of shopping or sightseeing, it only takes 3 minutes to return and unwind. Upon check-in, guests receive a welcome drink, and between 4 PM and 6:30 PM, you can enjoy a complimentary cocktail at the rooftop bar—just show your voucher. I loved lounging barefoot on the terrace, soaking in the views of the Kamo River. On the 9th floor, there’s a semi-outdoor hot spring bath with enough space to stretch out and swim a few laps—pure relaxation. The hotel blends Western-style design with traditional Japanese elements, and the attention to detail is impressive. Our room came with a private onsen and a fantastic city view, though we were on the third floor where the scenery was just okay. If you’re looking for better views, go for a higher-floor room—it’s totally worth it. For around ¥2,000, this is an incredible value; even at ¥3,000, it still feels like a steal. A must-stay if you want comfort, charm, and that perfect balance of modernity and tradition.

Located just a short walk from Kyoto Station, this hotel offers unbeatable convenience for travelers hopping between trains or exploring the city. While the building isn’t brand new, all facilities are well-maintained and fully functional—especially the hot water dispenser on the ground floor, which is perfect for those used to drinking warm water. The nearby 7-Eleven makes late-night snacks or essentials super easy to grab. The entire space, both indoor and outdoor areas, feels spotlessly clean with no lingering odors. What really stood out was the complimentary ramen served in the evening—rich broth, perfectly chewy noodles, and just right after a long day of sightseeing. Tennen Onsen Renka no Yu Onyado Nono Kyoto Shichijo

This hotel is an absolute steal for the price. The evening experience was fantastic—enjoying ramen while soaking in the hot spring, followed by a sweet treat of ice cream. I didn’t plan to have breakfast at first, but after reading glowing reviews online about their incredible value breakfast, I decided to upgrade. Worth every yen! The Japanese-style breakfast was generous, fresh, and thoughtfully prepared—perfect balance of flavors and portions. I’ve stayed at several properties within this chain before, and each time it’s been a top-tier experience. I’ll definitely be returning to this brand again. The only minor note: no shoes allowed inside rooms, which is understandable for hygiene but something to keep in mind when packing. Overall, the comfort, service, and attention to detail make this stay unforgettable.
