I can't say enough good things about Ten Bompas Hotel. After growing skeptical of the boutique hotel label—often meaning overpromised, overpriced, and underdelivered—I was pleasantly surprised to find that Ten Bompas is the real deal. As one of South Africa’s original boutique properties, it truly lives up to its reputation. The staff throughout the property were exceptional—from front desk to housekeeping. We arrived after a long trip through Namibia with a huge load of laundry, and I was shocked to discover that laundry service was included at no extra cost. Kudos to the housekeeper who handled everything so efficiently—she absolutely earned her tip! Every team member embodies what hospitality should be: warm, thoughtful, and genuine. I especially want to highlight General Manager Sean for his outstanding leadership and personal touch. But honestly, every single person we interacted with made us feel welcome. The food was another highlight—the chicken was hands-down the best I’ve had in South Africa. And yes, the fireplace is wood-burning—a rare and delightful touch these days. If you get the chance to stay here, don’t hesitate. It’s a true gem, and worth every penny.

I stayed here twice, each time in a different cottage, and both were clean, well-maintained, and full of charm. On my second visit, I was upgraded to Cottage 4—the one I affectionately called my 'Princess Tower'—and it was absolutely stunning. Spacious, cozy, and beautifully decorated, it felt like a little retreat all its own. The driver Chris, recommended by Jamie, was also fantastic—he’s reliable, professional, and went out of his way to help me on multiple occasions. From start to finish, the experience was seamless and memorable. This isn’t just a stay—it’s a home-away-from-home with heart.

Breakfast was delicious, and room service was prompt and well-executed. I’ll definitely book here again if I’m ever back in Johannesburg. 💕❤️ The rooms were clean and comfortable, but it would’ve been nice if basic amenities like robes, slippers, shampoo, and shower gel were provided upon arrival—especially after a long flight. Also, having bottled water available in the room right away would’ve made the experience even better. Overall, the hotel offers great value, excellent service, and a welcoming atmosphere. The Maison Jacaranda is absolutely beautiful, with a stunning room and exceptional service. However, keep in mind there's no 24-hour front desk—access is secured via a gate code. We booked with breakfast included, but the so-called breakfast was just yogurt and fruit in the room fridge, plus coffee, tea, honey, and granola in the cabinet. Honestly, it wasn’t a real breakfast, which came as a surprise. The neighborhood is quiet and entirely residential—definitely not walkable at night. It’s dark, isolated, and empty after sunset, so relying on rideshare apps like Uber or Bolt is essential. I highly recommend Bolt: it’s fast, half the price of Uber, reliable, and the app works flawlessly. Getting to and from the property was never an issue using Bolt. Overall, if you’re okay with no actual breakfast and need to depend on rideshares for transport, this place offers great value and charm. Highly recommend with full awareness of these details.
