They assured us that as long as we had the confirmation number, everything would be fine—yet we still ran into issues at check-in. The front desk claimed only one room was booked, but I showed them the confirmation showing two adults and one child. It took quite a while to resolve and finally they agreed to set up the sofa bed. If we’d confirmed everything in advance, it would’ve saved us a lot of hassle. The hotel itself has over a century of history, housed in a beautifully restored old palace with an elegant European royal grandmother aesthetic. Our suite was spacious and well-appointed, featuring a smart toilet seat—an uncommon luxury in Europe. The bedding and linens were comfortable and soft, offering a restful night’s sleep. One thing to note: the interior layout is quite winding and narrow, so carrying heavy luggage upstairs can be challenging. But the attention to detail really shines—the bath amenities are from Bredo, with a delicate, refreshing scent that adds a nice touch to the experience. Breakfast wasn’t overly extensive, but the dry breakfast items were decent, and the freshly squeezed orange juice stood out—tangy, sweet, and incredibly fresh. Service was genuinely warm and professional, with staff fluent in English and happy to help. Overall, this is a standout property in Salzburg, especially for families. With a bit more pre-arrival coordination, your stay could be even smoother. A truly memorable place with character and charm.

While the house doesn’t look exactly like the movie version, that’s actually part of its charm—it’s real history, not a set. Walking through the rooms, learning about the von Trapp family’s incredible escape story (yes, they took a train!) gives such a personal and emotional connection to the legacy. The villa itself has a classic European elegance with cozy, well-preserved interiors that feel both timeless and warm. It’s a bit on the pricier side, but honestly, for one night, it’s totally worth it. A unique, authentic experience that goes beyond just a hotel stay—more like stepping into a living piece of history.

Upon arrival at Buona Vita in Salzburg, we were warmly greeted by concierge Rafael. We mentioned it was our wedding anniversary and that we specifically chose this hotel to celebrate such a special occasion. He kindly promised us a little surprise—a thoughtful gesture that made us feel truly valued. Over the next few days, every time we saw him, he would mention it again, reinforcing our anticipation. Unfortunately, by the time we checked out, no surprise had been delivered. While the hotel isn’t legally obligated to follow through on promises not formally agreed upon, it’s still disappointing when expectations are raised and then left unmet. That said, the restaurant Brulee Bristô absolutely lived up to the hype—excellent ambiance, great service, and they even surprised us with a heartfelt celebration for our anniversary, which brought a real smile to our faces. As part of the Gramado Parks collection, we expected a more consistent level of personalized attention. It’s a shame that such a small oversight could overshadow an otherwise lovely stay. Hopefully, future guests will benefit from stronger follow-through on these kinds of promises.
