Location-wise, it’s unbeatable—Union Square is just a 2-minute walk away, and both Chinatown and Japantown are easily accessible on foot. There’s also a small convenience store right across the street from the hotel entrance, making late-night snacks or essentials super easy. One thing I appreciated deeply: the stretch between the hotel and Union Square feels noticeably safe, with almost no visible unhoused individuals—a huge plus for nighttime strolls. While I’d still recommend avoiding very late walks, it’s reassuring to know the area feels secure. Overall, this hotel delivers exceptional value, comfort, and peace of mind. It's a comfortable 10-minute walk to the nearest transit station, and even with two large suitcases each, we didn’t feel exhausted—more like enjoying a leisurely stroll. The proximity to Fisherman’s Wharf and Chinatown is a major plus; we spent hours exploring both areas, sampling incredible local eats along the way. The staff at the front desk went above and beyond—friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful with recommendations and check-in support. Inside the hotel, you’ll find a laundry room, a small but functional fitness center, and coffee makers both in the lobby and in every room—perfect for that morning pick-me-up. While the rooms aren’t huge, they’re spotless, well-maintained, and surprisingly fresh despite the slightly dated photos online. Overall, the value for money is outstanding. For the price, this is one of the best stays I’ve had in San Francisco—comfortable, convenient, and full of character.

I absolutely loved my stay at San Remo Hotel—truly a gem in San Francisco’s historic landscape. The moment I walked in, I was struck by the stunning stained glass windows and intricate woodwork that give the place such character. Each room is uniquely furnished with antique pieces and original artwork—no two rooms are alike, which made the experience feel special and personal. The staff went above and beyond; they were warm, attentive, and genuinely seemed to care about guests’ comfort. Free coffee was excellent, and every bathroom came stocked with toiletries—no need to pack shampoo or soap. I was nervous about shared facilities, but it turned out to be surprisingly smooth and private: each shower and toilet has its own enclosed room with a lockable door. No one ever interrupted me, and privacy was never an issue. Location-wise, it’s unbeatable—there’s a classy Italian restaurant downstairs, Trader Joe’s just a block away, and Fisherman’s Wharf is only a few blocks farther. Coit Tower and the famous zig-zag of Lombard Street are both within walking distance. I can’t recommend this place enough—it’s charming, convenient, and full of personality. I’m already planning my return visit.
