Facing Madison Street instead of Broadway meant fewer disturbances—though the trolleys still chime twice (not three times, as famously sung), which was a pleasant surprise. One minor note: there wasn’t a task chair in the room, just a small round table that could double as a dining or work surface, which felt a bit limiting. My spouse also found the seating options lacking in back support. That said, the staff were professional, efficient, and always responsive when we had questions or needed assistance. Self-parking is available in a compact garage, priced fairly for a central-city location. But honestly, the real highlight of this hotel is its location. In past visits to Seattle, we’ve either stayed far from downtown or in tourist-heavy zones. This property sits in the Capitol Hill/First Hill neighborhood—a genuine, lively local community with surprisingly few other hotels nearby. There’s an abundance of great independent restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance, including one well-known chain roastery. Downtown attractions are easily accessible on foot—about 15 to 20 minutes away—but the return walk uphill can be tough, especially on steep grades. Still, living near a major city center ourselves, we appreciate the authentic urban vibe: seeing people walking their dogs, diverse neighbors, and a true sense of place. Of course, we also noticed signs of homelessness, but that’s part of what makes the area real and grounded. For travelers who value location, character, and a more local experience over flashy amenities, this hotel offers exceptional value. It’s not perfect, but it delivers exactly what matters most: convenience, comfort, and a taste of real Seattle.

I chose to stay near the University of Washington because I’d heard the downtown area isn’t the safest, and honestly, this was one of my best decisions. I stayed here for a five-night work trip, and overall it was a decent experience. The rooms are fairly spacious with full kitchens and even a balcony—though there’s some variation in size between units. My room was on the 9th floor, which meant taking the main elevator to the 8th, walking down the middle of the floor, then transferring to another elevator to go up one more level—slightly inconvenient but manageable. I had a portable fan in the room, which made me wonder if the AC was acting up at times (my coworkers didn’t have one), but it actually helped mask nighttime noise. On check-in day, the front desk agent wrote the wrong room number on my key card. I went straight to the room, tried to use the key, but it wouldn’t open. I called the front desk from the hallway courtesy phone and found out the error—luckily just a small mix-up that could’ve been awkward. Housekeeping tends to leave freshly changed linens piled up in hallways, so if you arrive early, you’ll need to step carefully around the bedding mess. The hotel is within walking distance of shops, restaurants, coffee shops, and the waterfront Public Market—great for exploring after work. I felt safe walking around during the day, though I can see how some might feel differently at night. Every Wednesday, the hotel hosts a mini happy hour in the buffet area—nice touch. It’s also directly across from the convention center, making it ideal for business travelers. On my last night (Friday), the hotel got busier, and a party started next door. Even after security asked them to quiet down, I could still hear drawers slamming, shelves rattling, and doors banging all night. But since I was leaving early the next morning, I just dealt with it. Overall, the price was fair, and its central location made everything easy to access. If I’m back in Seattle for work, I’d definitely consider staying here again.
