Staying at The Castle Hotel in Dalian was an unexpectedly delightful experience. While the property is over ten years old and shows a few signs of aging—like minor cracks on the cabinet above the minibar and some walls—the overall condition doesn’t detract from the comfort or quality of the stay. It’s still a well-maintained luxury hotel with all standard amenities you’d expect. Breakfast was solid, offering more variety than some Westin locations but slightly less than certain Marriott properties. That said, the food quality stood out: the pastries were excellent, juices and milk options were plentiful, and the hot dishes were flavorful despite limited choices. The braised pork belly with potatoes was rich and aromatic, while the steamed shrimp were large and fresh. One area for improvement? The fruit wasn’t very sweet, and the quality could be better. But cleanliness was spotless—no issues there. The location is truly special: perched on a hill overlooking the sea, it’s one of Dalian’s iconic landmarks. Nighttime photos are absolutely stunning, and walking down to the city takes about 10–15 minutes—quiet and peaceful, though not directly next to a subway station. Taxis are easy to catch. The rooftop garden on the fifth floor is a hidden gem, perfect for relaxing or just enjoying the view. The lobby itself is grand and beautifully designed—every corner is photogenic. Service was exceptional: staff greeted us warmly, opened doors, helped with luggage, and the dedicated concierge team went above and beyond to accommodate requests. The minibar comes at an extra cost, but we were pleasantly surprised with a welcome fruit platter, dessert, and a generous bottle of house-brewed beer—a unique touch. This brew isn’t available online, but it’s smooth, refreshing, and definitely worth trying. Overall, this hotel delivers a high level of charm, comfort, and value. It’s not just a place to sleep—it’s a memorable experience that blends elegance, nature, and thoughtful service. I’d definitely return.
