I chose this hotel mainly because of the affordable price, which included breakfast, and its excellent central location—perfect for exploring St. Petersburg on foot. The front entrance is clearly marked, so no need to wander through dark hallways searching for the right door. The room itself was decent: comfortable bed, tea set, slippers, and a TV with plenty of channels (though not cable). Breakfast is a highlight—if you pre-arrange with staff, they can serve it at your preferred time and accommodate personal preferences. But if you arrive late without booking ahead, you might end up hungry or waiting. That said, there are some real downsides. Noise is a major issue—especially in the bathroom, where sound carries easily. Also, the water from the taps often had a strong metallic smell, making it unpleasant to brush teeth or wash up. Being on the ground floor with low windows means they’re always covered with heavy curtains. If you open them, you’re fully exposed to passersby—and with traffic noise outside, sleeping comfortably requires earplugs. The staff are mostly older and quite strict, giving off a vibe more like a dormitory than a guesthouse, which felt a bit over-controlled. The worst part? After check-out, you can’t just leave your luggage in the lobby to go sightseeing—you have to pay 300 rubles to store it securely, complete with a sealed bag and ticket. On top of that, we were charged an unreasonable fee for a towel that likely cost less than 200 rubles. This kind of overcharging only adds to the negative experience. Overall, comfort and hospitality clearly weren’t priorities here. We hope management uses any revenue from these fees to invest in proper winter bedding instead. As it stands, this stay was far from comfortable or worthwhile.

One response I got: "If you don’t like it, just leave." That kind of comment really soured the whole stay. Thankfully, they refunded my money without hassle—but honestly, the damage was already done. I felt drained and depressed after each day trip; coming back here felt like a chore. I booked through a company called Yulana, but when issues arose, both the hostel and the agency pointed fingers at each other. Neither took responsibility. No one was truly at fault, but that didn’t make the experience any better. Avoid this place if you value comfort, cleanliness, and basic respect.

On the ground floor, renovation work seemed to have been done ages ago, but there’s no maintenance now—peeling wallpaper, water stains, and dust everywhere. It’s frustrating to see such basic neglect. A little effort in cleaning and minor repairs would go a long way. Instead of hanging distracting artwork on the walls, management should focus on fixing what’s already broken. Honestly, if it were cleaner and better maintained, I’d be more likely to recommend it. As it stands, it’s only worth considering if you’re on a tight budget and just need a place to sleep.
