This is our third visit to this hotel, and it just keeps getting better. We upgraded to a junior suite with a private balcony overlooking the pool—huge room, amazing amenities including a jacuzzi bath, multi-head shower, double vanity sinks, and a bidet. Three small private balconies made our stay even more special, offering perfect spots to relax and enjoy the sea breeze. The property has several swimming pools (saltwater), a spa room, steam rooms, and small shops for convenience. Breakfast is a generous buffet with something for everyone—adding a glass of bubbly in the morning is an absolute treat! Poolside bars and a lively pub-style lounge are easy to access for a quick bite or evening drink. The hotel is just a 15-minute walk from Funchal’s city center, where there’s no shortage of restaurants and dining options. This is part of the Pestana group, and if all their properties are this well-run, they’re definitely worth checking out. Staff are consistently friendly, professional, and always ready to help. While the guest mix leans toward an older crowd, it suits us perfectly—we’re here for peace and quiet. Overall, this place delivers a true five-star experience. On departure, I witnessed a real-life emergency when a guest suddenly choked in the lobby. Without hesitation, the front desk staff sprang into action, immediately performing the Heimlich maneuver and successfully saving the person’s life. That kind of quick thinking and compassion speaks volumes about the team’s professionalism and care. High room turnover rate? That makes perfect sense—this place clearly delivers exceptional value and hospitality. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Funchal.

While the shared pool isn’t heated, it’s ideal for cooling off during the summer months when the weather gets warm. The location is just north of the city center, making it a manageable 15-minute walk into town. However, returning uphill can be tough, especially if you’re carrying bags or traveling with kids. We walked into town every day and took taxis back—usually from the rank near the Continente supermarket, which is about a 4-minute ride. Taxi fares varied between €5 and €8 even on the same route, so it’s worth asking for an estimate upfront. Also note: some drivers charge an extra €1.50 for handling shopping bags—something to keep in mind. The only downside was the barking dogs nearby, which were persistent on certain days and carried through the night. I understand Louise, the host, has been trying to address this, and I hope she succeeds. Despite that, the property offers great value, especially for travelers who appreciate a quiet yet central base with stunning views.
Central - São Pedro Boutique
We always prefer staying in the heart of the city, and Sao Pedro Boutique Hotel—just behind the municipal park—was perfect for us. Located right in the middle of Funchal, we could easily walk or hop on local buses to reach any part of town. It’s also within walking distance of restaurants, bars, the marina promenade, and the historic old town—everything you’d want is just a short stroll away. The Z apartment features a spacious and pleasant terrace, ideal for relaxing with a morning coffee or enjoying an evening breeze. Inside, the layout is simple but functional: a well-equipped kitchenette, a comfortable double bed, and a decent bathroom—though it could use a few more towel hooks. What really stood out was the value—pricing for a week was excellent, especially considering the location and amenities. And Paolo, our host, was friendly, helpful, and genuinely welcoming. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Funchal.
