Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Maruyama Park

Near Maruyama Park, the top choice is Hotel Maruyama Park Sapporo, just a 5-minute walk from the park entrance. Its rooms feature traditional Japanese garden views, with some offering panoramic vistas of Maruyama Shrine and cherry blossoms in spring. The hotel provides complimentary shuttle service to Sapporo Station, ensuring excellent transport access.

Another excellent option is HOTEL THE CUBE Sapporo, located only 700 meters away, blending modern design with Hokkaido-inspired aesthetics. It features an on-site onsen bath and a restaurant specializing in local ingredients. Guests can enjoy exclusive access to weekly events like the Maruyama Festival, including special tea ceremonies. Both properties offer ideal stays for visitors seeking nature, culture, and convenience in central Sapporo.

From Maruyama Park, take the Sapporo Municipal Subway Tozai Line to stations like Nishi-11-Jō or Hokkaido University Station, connecting seamlessly to major sites such as Odori Park, Sapporo TV Tower, and Toriyama Shopping Street. Multiple bus routes—including Route 39 and 64—run directly from near the park to Sapporo Station and White Love Park, offering flexible options.

A scenic alternative is the dedicated bicycle path linking Maruyama Park to Odori Park (1.8 km), passing through urban green corridors and riverside views. Rent a public bike via Sapporo Bike Share for low-cost, eco-friendly travel—ideal for families and couples. All modes accept Suica and ICOCA cards, enabling contactless payment without extra tickets, making exploration effortless and efficient.

Beyond its famous cherry blossoms, Maruyama Park hosts several traditional cultural events throughout the year. During spring, the annual Maruyama Festival features kimono try-on booths, tea ceremony demonstrations, and taiko drum performances, where visitors can participate in crafting paper lanterns and making inari sushi.

In autumn, the park transforms during the Autumn Illumination Festival, with ancient trees and shrines lit up in soft glow, creating a dreamlike atmosphere complemented by traditional music concerts and craft markets. Photography enthusiasts flock here for the magical night scenery.

The park also houses a branch of the Sapporo Citizens' Museum, showcasing Ainu culture, indigenous history, and artifacts from Hokkaido’s early days, offering deep insights into regional heritage. During festivals, guests can join prayer wish-writing rituals, hanging their hopes on sacred ema boards—an authentic glimpse into Japanese spiritual traditions. These experiences turn Maruyama Park into more than a green space—it’s a living cultural stage.

Maruyama Park is one of Sapporo’s most popular destinations for families. The park features a large children’s playground with safe sand pits, slides, and climbing structures, plus regular parent-child workshops on nature crafts, plant specimen collection, and ecological tours.

During summer, the open plaza hosts Family Picnic Days, offering free rental of tents and picnic tables, along with guided simple science experiments and outdoor games led by experts. The lakeside walking trail includes family bicycle rentals, allowing parents and kids to ride along the water’s edge, spotting ducks and willows, with stops at the Lakeside Pavilion for warm soups and sweet treats.

In winter, it transforms into a snow sculpture experience zone, where families can build small snow sculptures together and join snow treasure hunts—fun, educational, and perfect for all ages. All activities provide bilingual (Chinese and English) instructions, ensuring smooth participation for international families.

Jr Tower Hotel Nikko Sapporo

Staying at JR Sapporo Nikko Hotel was an absolute delight from start to finish. The service was exceptional—staff went above and beyond, even carrying my luggage up to the room and neatly placing it on the shelf for easy access. I was especially impressed by the spa, which is exclusively available to guests in the morning, so it’s never crowded and feels truly relaxing. I spent a peaceful moment lounging in a quiet corner, enjoying soft music and a refreshing ice cream—perfect way to unwind after a long journey. Breakfast was a highlight too: I tried both the Japanese-style and buffet options, but the Japanese meal stood out with its fresh ingredients and authentic flavors. Everything felt thoughtfully curated. Located just steps from the subway, it’s incredibly convenient for exploring Sapporo. This hotel offers an unbeatable mix of comfort, service, and value—I’ll definitely be returning.

Hotel Sosei Sapporo - MGallery Collection

Staying at Hotel Sosei Sapporo - MGallery Collection truly exceeded my expectations for a Japanese hotel. The design aesthetic is sophisticated, the staff were attentive and friendly, the room size was just right, and the dining options were excellent. I initially had to split my booking across different dates due to availability issues with my preferred room type, but upon arrival, the hotel kindly upgraded me to a deluxe standard room—completely free of charge—and consolidated all my reservations seamlessly. There was a small oversight when housekeeping missed my room, but instead of a generic apology, they handed me a handwritten note along with a little sweet treat. That personal touch really showed how much they value their guests and how quickly they address any hiccups. This experience felt warm and human, not just transactional. If I ever return to Sapporo, this will be my first choice. Also, since I booked early, I noticed a significant price difference before departure—thank you to the platform for promptly processing the refund for the price difference. Truly appreciated!

41 Pieces Sapporo

Staying at 41 Pieces Sapporo was an absolute highlight of my trip to Sapporo! The front desk staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, especially the female team members who brought such great energy and warmth. English signage and support made communication smooth—no worries at all for non-Japanese speakers. The outdoor area is beautifully designed with lush greenery, perfect for a relaxing moment with a drink. Inside, the rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean, and well-thought-out—three of us had plenty of room without feeling cramped. I loved that we could borrow vinyl records and toys from the lobby; it added such a unique, homely touch. And the location? Just steps away from Sapporo’s subway station, making it easy to explore downtown, shopping districts, or even the nearby food scene. Honestly, I’d have stayed longer if I could’ve booked again—but the rooms book up fast! This place truly delivers on comfort, charm, and convenience. A must-visit for anyone visiting Sapporo.

Jr Inn Sapporo Kita 2 Jo

The hotel is about the size you'd expect from a typical Japanese property, but it's actually larger than I anticipated—really spacious for the price. What impressed me most was the location: perfectly situated in a quiet yet central area, close to business districts, so evenings are peaceful and relaxing. Yet just a short walk to Odori Park brings you right into the heart of the city’s vibrant energy. Getting here from Sapporo Station is super easy—just exit at Gate 24, turn onto the side street, and it’s about a 10-minute walk. The route is well-marked, making navigation stress-free. Overall, this place offers unbeatable convenience without sacrificing comfort. It’s an excellent choice for travelers who want both tranquility and accessibility.

Hotel Keihan Sapporo

At first glance, the room didn’t impress me—furniture looked a bit worn, but after staying for two weeks, I grew to love it more and more. The Japanese hospitality here is truly exceptional; every staff member, from housekeeping to front desk, was genuinely attentive and professional—something I’ve missed in other cities where service teams often include non-native staff. The second-floor onsen-style bath is a real highlight, especially after a long day exploring Sapporo in winter. Stepping into the warm water after freezing cold weather felt like pure luxury. The central heating works incredibly well—the room stays cozy and comfortable all night. Hot water pressure in the shower is strong, which is always a plus. I’m already planning to come back next year for a month-long stay just to enjoy the snow and the peaceful vibe. This is hands-down my top choice for accommodation in Sapporo.

HOTEL MYSTAYS Sapporo Station

Staying at MYSTAYS Sapporo Station North Exit was such a great experience—especially the location. It’s incredibly convenient; just step out of JR Sapporo Station from the north side (west entrance), and the hotel is literally just a short walk away. Perfect for travelers with luggage, as it’s very straightforward to reach without any hassle. I also appreciated the complimentary self-service skincare products available in the room—DHC brand, which is always a plus since you can use them freely without worrying about waste. The north exit east side is currently under renovation, but if you’re traveling light and don’t mind a few steps, the underground passage offers a quick, sheltered route that cuts down exposure to chilly air by a couple of minutes. Even better: I arrived on a snowy day, and the city looked absolutely magical with fresh snowfall—everything felt cozy and scenic. This hotel truly delivers comfort, convenience, and charm all in one. Definitely planning to come back.

The room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and very comfortable with a cozy bed that made for a restful night’s sleep. Excellent value for money, and the staff were friendly and helpful. VIA INN PRIME SAPPRO ODORI JR-West Group

This is my second stay at this hotel, and I’m even more impressed than the first time! The location is unbeatable—right on the doorstep of Norenji 2, perfectly positioned between Sapporo TV Tower and the famous Higashi-cho area. It’s super convenient for exploring the city, with plenty of convenience stores, bars, and amazing spots like a top-rated curry soup restaurant just steps away. The room was spotless, well-equipped, and so comfortable—I slept like a baby. The staff were genuinely warm and welcoming, especially the Chinese-speaking lady who helped me during check-in; her kindness made all the difference. Cleanliness, comfort, and great service—all in one fantastic package. If you’re visiting Sapporo, this is the kind of place that makes your trip feel effortless and enjoyable. Highly recommended!

Hotel Resol Sapporo Nakajima Koen

This hotel truly exceeded my expectations! The cleanliness was outstanding—every corner, from the bathroom to the floors, felt spotless and fresh. It’s been ages since I stayed in a place this tidy. The front desk staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, offering great local tips and assistance with transportation. The location is unbeatable—right next to the train station, so getting around Sapporo was effortless. Plus, there's a convenient duty-free shop just outside the entrance for last-minute shopping. With such a prime location, top-notch cleanliness, and excellent service, this hotel offers incredible value. I’d absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to any traveler visiting Sapporo.

Keikyu EX Hotel Sapporo

Staying here for two nights was a great experience overall. The hotel is incredibly convenient—just a 2-minute walk from the north exit of Sapporo JR Station, right at the traffic light intersection. No confusion with directions. The lobby is on the second floor via the elevator, making access smooth and straightforward. The room was clean, well-maintained, and offered enough space for comfort. Free coffee and toiletries are available at the lobby area—super handy and thoughtful. Breakfast is served on the basement level (B1), and it's nice to see variety over two days—different options each morning, so it never gets boring. If you skip the breakfast package, there’s a nearby café just steps away. One of their breakfast sets (a coffee and toast combo) costs around 600 yen, and it’s a solid value. Food quality is good, and it’s a great alternative. All in all, this hotel offers excellent location, reliable service, and a comfortable stay. I’d definitely come back if I visit Sapporo again.

Sapporo Washington Hotel Plaza

Staying at Sapporo Washington Hotel Plaza was a fantastic experience. The room was spacious enough with a desk and chair—perfect for unpacking, working, or even enjoying a quick meal. One standout feature: the bathroom doesn’t require stepping over a threshold, which is surprisingly rare in Japanese hotels and made things much more convenient, especially with luggage or for elderly guests. If it’s rainy or snowy, you can easily access JR Station via the underground passage right across the street from the hotel—initially a bit confusing if you’re not familiar, but once you find your way, it’s super efficient. For sunny days, the most straightforward route is exiting JR’s North Gate, turning right, walking straight past the crosswalk, and spotting the hotel sign immediately. There are two nearby supermarkets for snacks and drinks—very handy. While bottled water isn’t provided, there are two daily time slots where you can use your room key to access free coffee and hot tea on the second floor. It’s a small touch, but appreciated. Overall, the location, comfort, and thoughtful details make this hotel a top choice. I’d definitely stay here again.

Tmark City Hotel Sapporo Odori

The hotel isn’t right next to the subway station, but it’s just a 5-minute walk to Tachikawa-dori, which is super convenient—especially in winter. There’s a covered walkway connecting the two, so you’re protected from snow and freezing winds the whole way. The room facilities are solid, and everything works well. That said, space is a bit tight—fitting two large suitcases open at once is a bit of a challenge. Still, the location, comfort, and value make this a great choice for a stress-free stay in Sapporo.
