Mehtab Bagh (Moonlight Garden) is Agra's best-kept secret, a serene Mughal-era garden perfectly aligned with the Taj Mahal across the Yamuna River. Its white marble platforms glow under moonlight, creating a mirror image of the iconic mausoleum. Come at sunset to watch the Taj transition from golden hues to silvery-blue under the stars. Legend says this was where Emperor Shah Jahan planned his black marble tomb, now transformed into a lovers' paradise. Don't miss the surreal view of dual "monuments of love" reflected in the Yamuna River – a photographer's dream come true!

Everything you need to know about Mehtab Bagh
The charbagh quadrilateral design symbolizes Islamic paradise gardens. Its axis alignment with Taj Mahal reflects Mughal engineers' precision astronomy knowledge.
Official ASI-certified guides can be hired near the entrance (approx. 500 INR/hour). Audio guides in 12 languages are also available through the Uttar Pradesh Tourism app.
Watch for riverine birds like egrets and kingfishers along Yamuna River. The garden's neem trees occasionally host langur monkeys at dusk.
Commercial shoots require prior permission from ASI. Personal photography is allowed except during monsoon season (July-Sept) when pathways may flood.
While both are Taj viewing spots, Moonlight Garden features original Mughal water channels whereas Mehtab Bagh is a 1990s reconstruction on the opposite riverbank.
The garden has wheelchair-accessible paths to central viewpoints. Special entry via east gate avoids stairs. Tactile maps available at ticket counter.
