Once back at the hotel, draw a long soak in the tub, slip into your robe, and lose yourself in a good book before drifting off to sleep. Salzburg isn’t just a destination anymore—it’s become my favorite place on earth.

Staying at Gasthof Hotel Doktorwirt was a delightful experience from start to finish. The warm welcome from the staff set the tone for a comfortable and memorable visit. The hotel’s location is ideal for getting into Salzburg by bus, just a short ride away. There’s a small bar on-site, though no dinner service in the evenings. However, there are several restaurants within walking distance, and we tried one nearby (just a 5-minute walk) that served authentic local cuisine—absolutely delicious, though I can’t recall the name now. One thing to note: many places in Salzburg, including this one, operate on cash-only basis, which was common during our trip through the region, including Berchtesgaden. Overall, this place offers a genuine, homely feel with excellent value. If we ever return to Salzburg, we’d definitely choose to stay here again.

Walter and Gudrun were beyond welcoming—true hosts who made us feel like part of the family. Their warmth and genuine hospitality stood out throughout our visit. We stayed in a cozy upper-floor room with a stunning view of the surrounding countryside; the space was spotless, quiet, and very comfortable. Breakfast was a highlight—a generous buffet with fresh, delicious options that changed daily so we never had the same thing twice. And of course, Timmy the dog was always there with his wagging tail and cheerful bark—such a sweet addition to the experience. If you're looking for a peaceful retreat with incredible hospitality and easy access to top attractions, Haus am Moos is a must-visit. We can't recommend it highly enough.

While the house doesn’t look exactly like the movie version, that’s actually part of its charm—it’s real history, not a set. Walking through the rooms, learning about the von Trapp family’s incredible escape story (yes, they took a train!) gives such a personal and emotional connection to the legacy. The villa itself has a classic European elegance with cozy, well-preserved interiors that feel both timeless and warm. It’s a bit on the pricier side, but honestly, for one night, it’s totally worth it. A unique, authentic experience that goes beyond just a hotel stay—more like stepping into a living piece of history.
Buona Vita
Upon arrival at Buona Vita in Salzburg, we were warmly greeted by concierge Rafael. We mentioned it was our wedding anniversary and that we specifically chose this hotel to celebrate such a special occasion. He kindly promised us a little surprise—a thoughtful gesture that made us feel truly valued. Over the next few days, every time we saw him, he would mention it again, reinforcing our anticipation. Unfortunately, by the time we checked out, no surprise had been delivered. While the hotel isn’t legally obligated to follow through on promises not formally agreed upon, it’s still disappointing when expectations are raised and then left unmet. That said, the restaurant Brulee Bristô absolutely lived up to the hype—excellent ambiance, great service, and they even surprised us with a heartfelt celebration for our anniversary, which brought a real smile to our faces. As part of the Gramado Parks collection, we expected a more consistent level of personalized attention. It’s a shame that such a small oversight could overshadow an otherwise lovely stay. Hopefully, future guests will benefit from stronger follow-through on these kinds of promises.
