The family room had two spacious beds, and while there was no balcony, the large windows let in gorgeous morning light that streamed across the rooftops opposite. Not including breakfast actually worked out well—we could each grab something local: the kids loved the street-side oyster noodles, the grandparents enjoyed authentic Xiamen-style seafood rice, and I happily devoured a crispy tangyuan. We met back in the room, then headed to Huangcuo Beach at our own relaxed pace. It was exactly the kind of slow, unhurried trip that made everyone happy.
