Salzburg was just another charming Austrian town until I checked into Hotel Schloss Mönchstein. From the moment I stepped in, it felt like stepping into a storybook. The pool is incredible—perfect for lounging with an Aperol Spritz in hand and challenging friends to underwater breath-holding contests (yes, really). Breakfast is top-notch: skip the self-service buffet and go straight for the fresh omelets and delicate crepes—they’re worth every penny. Afterward, hop on the elevator and stroll over to La Stella. Their Bolognese, feta cheese pizza, and tiramisu are absolute highlights. Pair it all with a glass of local wine and take the scenic route back through the quiet streets. Once back at the hotel, draw a long soak in the tub, slip into your robe, and lose yourself in a good book before drifting off to sleep. Salzburg isn’t just a destination anymore—it’s become my favorite place on earth.

This hotel is an absolute must-visit if you're driving—definitely not ideal for those without a car, as it's nestled high in the hills behind Salzburg. The views of the city at sunset are breathtaking and truly unforgettable. While the Michelin-starred restaurant was closed on Sunday during our stay, the breakfast experience still ranked among my top two ever—only surpassed by Landhaus zu Appesch by Wolfgangsee. That said, this place offers the best value for money. The outdoor pool is perfect for relaxing under the alpine sky, and the hillside is home to a small flock of sheep and beehives. I actually tried calling out to the sheep and got a surprisingly fierce response—hilarious! The grassy area right in front of the hotel is ideal for reading, sipping beer, or just soaking up the sun. Moments like these are pure bliss—simple, peaceful, and deeply refreshing.

This was an absolutely fantastic stay! We arrived just the first week of summer opening and were greeted with lemonade and cupcakes upon check-in—such a thoughtful touch. The hostel is incredibly clean, staff are friendly and helpful, and there's a lovely patio area perfect for enjoying meals outdoors. Free coffee is available throughout the day—great for early risers like us. We took a taxi from the train station (for four people) for only €16—very reasonable. The location is ideal: less than a 5-minute walk to the huge outdoor pool Freibad Leopoldskron, and about 15 minutes on foot to the historic Altstadt. The neighborhood is shady and peaceful, making it perfect for a morning jog through the park—even though it’s hilly, the scenery makes it worth it. Everything about this place feels fresh and well-organized, especially considering it’s just opened. A real hidden gem in Salzburg with unbeatable value. I’d definitely come back.

If you're a fan of The Sound of Music like me, visiting Villa Trapp is an absolute must. While the house doesn’t look exactly like the movie version, that’s actually part of its charm—it’s real history, not a set. Walking through the rooms, learning about the von Trapp family’s incredible escape story (yes, they took a train!) gives such a personal and emotional connection to the legacy. The villa itself has a classic European elegance with cozy, well-preserved interiors that feel both timeless and warm. It’s a bit on the pricier side, but honestly, for one night, it’s totally worth it. A unique, authentic experience that goes beyond just a hotel stay—more like stepping into a living piece of history.
Buona Vita
Upon arrival at Buona Vita in Salzburg, we were warmly greeted by concierge Rafael. We mentioned it was our wedding anniversary and that we specifically chose this hotel to celebrate such a special occasion. He kindly promised us a little surprise—a thoughtful gesture that made us feel truly valued. Over the next few days, every time we saw him, he would mention it again, reinforcing our anticipation. Unfortunately, by the time we checked out, no surprise had been delivered. While the hotel isn’t legally obligated to follow through on promises not formally agreed upon, it’s still disappointing when expectations are raised and then left unmet. That said, the restaurant Brulee Bristô absolutely lived up to the hype—excellent ambiance, great service, and they even surprised us with a heartfelt celebration for our anniversary, which brought a real smile to our faces. As part of the Gramado Parks collection, we expected a more consistent level of personalized attention. It’s a shame that such a small oversight could overshadow an otherwise lovely stay. Hopefully, future guests will benefit from stronger follow-through on these kinds of promises.
