It’s hard to imagine why travel agencies would even list this as a quality option for visitors. While locals might find it acceptable, it simply doesn’t meet the expectations of travelers seeking comfort and reliability. This needs serious review by the platform—don’t mislead guests with misleading listings.
We stayed at Newlands Cottages for the second time this April 2018, hoping to relive the great experience we had on our first visit. Unfortunately, this trip turned out to be a major disappointment. My husband suffered a broken right ankle after missing the last two steps of the staircase. The design is extremely unsafe—there’s no way to turn on the lights at the bottom before descending, meaning guests must go down in complete darkness. To make matters worse, the handrail ends two steps too early, leaving no physical cue to know when you’ve actually finished the stairs. We reported the issue immediately, but the owner showed zero concern and didn’t even check in to see if we needed help. When I asked for assistance with arranging a wheelchair for my husband at the airport, her response was dismissive and unfriendly. There are no basic safety measures in place, and the risk of injury is real. This experience was truly awful. We cannot recommend this property and will not stay here again.
