Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Planetarium

Hotel Le Crystal is a top choice just minutes from the Montreal Planetarium, offering exclusive stargazing packages that grant guests access to the planetarium's telescopes and night-time guided tours. Some rooms feature skylights for indoor skywatching, while the hotel collaborates with the planetarium on "Journey Through the Cosmos" packages including lectures, shows, and immersive star projections. Its science-inspired design and prime location make it ideal for astronomy enthusiasts seeking an unforgettable cosmic experience.

The most convenient option is taking the Montreal Metro Line 4 (Orange Line) to Place-des-Arts Station, just a 5-minute walk from the Montreal Planetarium. This line connects directly to downtown, Old Town, and major business districts in under 10 minutes. Multiple bus routes (e.g., 57, 69) also serve the area, accepting STM cards or mobile payments with 24/7 service. For scenic travel, rent an electric bike and ride along the St. Lawrence River waterfront, enjoying panoramic views of the city skyline and natural landscapes en route to downtown.

Beyond the planetarium show, the venue offers hands-on activities like black hole simulations, Mars colony design workshops, and interactive solar system model tours. Weekly "Night Explorer Days" let visitors use telescopes to observe lunar craters and planetary orbits under expert guidance. The on-site Youth Science Lab allows kids to build and launch mini rockets, combining cutting-edge technology with playful learning. These immersive programs are perfect for families and school groups seeking deeper insights into cosmic phenomena through experiential education.

Try Le Ciel Restaurant, located atop the Science Centre building adjacent to the Montreal Planetarium, offering 360-degree panoramic windows overlooking the St. Lawrence River Valley and city skyline. Its menu blends French and Quebecois cuisine—highlighted by slow-roasted duck breast with truffle sauce—paired with local craft beers. The restaurant hosts astronomy-themed dinners, where menus and lighting change nightly based on real-time celestial events, creating an immersive dining experience. Guests can watch live nebula footage on large screens while savoring meals, seamlessly merging gourmet cuisine with cosmic wonder.

Hotel de l'Univers is a top choice, located just steps from the Montreal Planetarium. This boutique hotel features star-themed rooms with skylights that open for direct sky viewing, offering an immersive urban stargazing experience. The hotel partners with the planetarium to host nighttime astronomy workshops, making it ideal for science enthusiasts. With free parking, nearby public transit options, and a central location, it combines comfort and celestial wonder seamlessly.

Yes, access is excellent. The Montreal Planetarium is on Île Sainte-Hélène, reachable via the Montreal Metro Green Line directly to the "Montreal Planetarium" station, taking about 20 minutes from downtown. Additionally, Bus Route 143 serves the island, with a 15-minute ride from the city center. For drivers, ample parking is available on-site, and the island connects to Quebec Route 20, ensuring easy access. Using the STM Transit Card or mobile app is recommended for seamless travel.

Beyond the exhibitions, don’t miss the nightly star projection shows, which transport visitors through dynamic virtual journeys across the cosmos with surround sound. On select nights—such as full moon evenings—the planetarium hosts public telescope viewing sessions, guided by experts observing the Moon and planets. Nearby, the interactive science park features solar system models, gravity experiments, and hands-on exhibits perfect for families. HopeGoo in advance via the official website is highly recommended.

Opt for rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows or skylights to maximize unobstructed night sky views. The Starlight Suite at Hotel de l'Univers features a smart-lit ceiling that simulates constellations and includes adjustable lighting systems for immersive cosmic ambiance. Some rooms also offer portable telescope rentals for on-site or garden viewing. Rooms facing southeast provide the optimal stargazing angle. The hotel even sends personalized stargazing alerts based on weather forecasts and celestial events.

Chateau Versailles

The Chateau Versailles exceeded my expectations in every way. The actual hotel looks even more beautiful than the photos—elegant, historic, and impeccably clean. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making our stay truly comfortable. The only minor note is that there’s a slight sound when walking on the floors, but it's barely noticeable and doesn’t take away from the overall experience. The location is fantastic—just a short metro ride into downtown Montreal. With such charm, comfort, and value, this place feels like a hidden gem. I’d absolutely stay here again.

We absolutely loved our stay at Liv MTL - Soho in Montreal! The apartment was spotless, cozy, and beautifully designed—perfect for a relaxing getaway. The rooftop terrace was a real highlight; spending time up there with a drink in hand, enjoying the city views, made the whole experience even better. It’s such a great spot to unwind after a day of exploring the neighborhood. The only minor issue was that one of the outlets in the bathroom wasn’t working, but it didn’t detract from the overall excellent experience. With its prime location, modern vibe, and welcoming atmosphere, we’d definitely book again. Highly recommend for travelers looking for comfort and convenience in the heart of Montreal.

Royal Victoria College Residence

Staying at Royal Victoria College Residence was a surprisingly good experience for the price. Located just two blocks from McGill Metro and bus stops, it's incredibly convenient for getting around Montreal—perfect for students or budget travelers. The room is dorm-style with shared bathrooms, but the affordability makes up for it: we paid only about one-third of what other hotels charge. Our large room had two single beds, two desks, a spacious walk-in closet, and a small fridge—very functional for short stays. The main downside? No air conditioning. During a July heatwave, the first night was unbearable without fans—no units were available initially, and the room felt stuffy and hot. Luckily, we managed to rent two fans (one per person), which made a huge difference when pointed toward our beds. The windows had no screens, but we were lucky—no mosquitoes on the 5th floor. Facing University Street, there was some street noise, but it was manageable, especially with the fans running. The shared bathroom included two showers, one toilet stall, and three sinks with mirrors. There’s also a separate bathroom with a tub (though it looked rarely used), a sink, and another toilet. Despite sharing the area with a few other guests, we never had to wait for showers in the morning or evening. Towels, hand towels, washcloths, and a bar of soap were provided, though there was no daily towel refresh service. Overall, this was a solid stay given the low cost and unbeatable location. If I return, I’d definitely bring my own fans and mentally prepare for no AC—otherwise, it’s a great value option.

They made the process seamless and stress-free, which meant a lot after a tiring journey. The location is fantastic—close to public transit and all the city’s best spots. Clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed, this place offers excellent value for money. I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting Montreal, whether for business or leisure.

Alt Hostel

This was my first time staying at a hostel, and honestly, it was an unforgettable experience! Montreal is ridiculously expensive during peak season, especially for accommodations, so this place ended up being the most affordable option I could find—two nights cost me over $700 USD, which isn’t great but still better than most alternatives. The location is super close to downtown, making it easy to explore nearby spots like Notre-Dame Basilica, walk through McGill University campus, and even hike up Mount Royal. I stayed in a 10-person mixed dorm with three girls and four guys—only one girl seemed to be from Hong Kong, while everyone else was white travelers. On the first night, I was so exhausted that I started snoring loudly, which apparently woke someone up. A girl gently complained, and wow, I felt instantly embarrassed. I quickly apologized: 'Sorry if I snore again, please just wake me up!' She said 'Thank you' and went back to sleep—though I could tell she was a little resigned. Thankfully, by day three, I bought a train ticket to escape the situation (literally!), and finally got some peace and quiet. Definitely not a long-term stay, but a decent short-term option if you're on a tight budget and just need a base to explore the city.
