Then I stumbled upon Casa Malca on Xiaohongshu—a few posts, but the photos immediately stood out. It wasn’t flashy or mainstream. Instead, it felt like a quiet museum by the sea: minimalist, artistic, deeply atmospheric. There was something about it that screamed ‘escape’—and I knew instantly, this was the one. I booked three nights on the spot. Driving two hours from Cancún, I arrived tired and still carrying the weight of city life. I walked into the property with my guard up, still in serious mode. But as I made my way toward the lobby, the vibe shifted—calm, mysterious, immersive. And then came Yair, the front desk staff, whose warm, genuine smile (and striking looks!) instantly melted my stress. He greeted me like an old friend. This trip was actually for my birthday—a solo celebration—and the hotel had arranged a room upgrade and thoughtful touches I hadn’t even expected. It felt less like a booking and more like being welcomed into a private sanctuary. The breakfast was unreal: a perfectly cooked egg white omelette bursting with fresh, vibrant vegetables, beautifully presented. Even though I don’t usually eat pastries, the staff brought over a slice of carrot cake—so moist and rich, I ended up loving it. The pool area is stunningly designed, intimate, and full of character. The room was fantastic, with an incredibly comfortable bed and breathtaking views that made every moment feel like a postcard. Unfortunately, we visited during the sargassum season, which caused the water to turn brownish-red and sometimes carried a faint odor from decomposing seaweed along the shore. That said, I can only imagine how stunning the view must be when the beach is clear. The hotel features two excellent restaurants, and the meals were delicious and well-prepared. Despite the seasonal drawback, the overall experience was outstanding. It’s a perfect spot for a relaxing getaway if you’re looking for beauty, comfort, and great food.

Several restaurants only opened on a rotating basis, with just two available daily, so we couldn’t try all the dining options. That said, it’s disappointing for a property of this caliber. More concerning was the cleanliness issue near our room—guests from the adjacent unit kept ordering meals, and leftover food was left in the hallway for days. A fork remained on the stairs for four full days with no one picking it up. The poolside snack bar served burgers and light bites for one day but was completely closed for two others while we were at the pool. Instead of service, we found scattered food remnants where birds were feeding, and no staff appeared to clean up. Only late in the afternoon did someone show up to collect the trash—but they didn’t even wipe down the counters or clean the grills. These lapses are hard to overlook for a resort that markets itself as top-tier. Despite these shortcomings, the rest of the stay was fantastic. With tighter operational oversight, this place could easily be flawless.

Overall, it feels more tailored to younger travelers looking for a vibrant, casual vibe rather than a refined, relaxing escape. If you’re okay with the commute and don’t mind a less polished atmosphere, it still offers a unique tropical setting. But if comfort and seamless service are priorities, this might not be the best fit.
