While the hotel is located centrally along Durban’s beachfront, it's on the southern side, just one block away from the main city street. That corner does attract a mix of people, so if you're walking around, keep valuables like phones, wallets, or purses out of sight—tuck them under your clothes. Also, avoid wearing flashy jewelry or expensive watches. The room itself was spacious, clean, and featured a small balcony perfect for relaxing. I was initially concerned about being on the first floor and possibly disturbed by street noise, but I was pleasantly surprised—the room was well soundproofed, and there was no disruption during the night. I slept well, though this might differ on weekends. The air conditioning worked quietly and effectively. The bathroom had minimal amenities for a hotel marketed as upscale—only a tiny water bottle provided, and no chocolates upon arrival, unlike some nearby options where guests get treats and larger bottles. My stay at Coastlands Durban Self Catering Holiday Apartments was extremely disappointing. Early in the morning around 6:45 AM, I realized my phone had been stolen from the room. It turned out a stranger had entered without permission—apparently because staff had told us not to lock the door due to a faulty key card issue. This lack of security is unacceptable. Later that day at around 1 PM, I encountered the manager again and he acted completely unaware, even though he clearly saw me earlier. His response was dismissive and unhelpful. To make matters worse, I also found cockroaches inside the room—this is a serious hygiene concern. The combination of theft, poor management, and unsanitary conditions made this experience truly awful. I won’t be returning, and I strongly urge the hotel to address these critical issues immediately before more guests suffer the same frustration.
