There are plenty of restaurants, cafes, and convenience stores nearby—everything you need is within easy reach. Our room was compact but thoughtfully designed with all the essentials: comfy bed, modern amenities, and a stunning view of the ocean. Waking up to the sound of waves and watching the sunrise through the window was pure bliss. It’s rare to find such a great balance between comfort, location, and value. I’d definitely book again and highly recommend this gem to anyone visiting Durban.
Bayside Hotel 116 West Street
Absolutely loved my stay at Bayside Hotel 116 West Street! The location is perfect—right by the waterfront with stunning ocean views from the room. I was able to catch a quick train into downtown with no hassle, making it ideal for exploring Durban. Britannia Hotel
This visit was truly disappointing. I’ve been coming to this hotel for years and always enjoyed the excellent food and service, but this recent experience was a complete letdown. The bar staff were arrogant and completely dismissive, taking ages to serve even simple drinks with no courtesy. Management seemed indifferent—no apology, no effort to resolve issues. It felt like the place had gone downhill fast. I can’t imagine returning or recommending it to anyone. This is not the Britannia Hotel I once knew. A real shame.

Our first night was definitely disappointing—the room was small and lacked proper airflow due to its location, making it uncomfortably hot. However, we were truly blessed with an incredible staff member named Mbali, who stepped in and kindly arranged a better room with a balcony. This made all the difference! We were able to stay for the remainder of our booking and even celebrated my husband’s birthday on Sunday—exactly why we booked this trip in the first place. Her kindness turned a stressful start into a memorable experience. The hotel’s overall charm, combined with such exceptional service, makes it worth recommending. I’m already considering returning.
