Chateau Versailles

The Chateau Versailles exceeded my expectations in every way. The actual hotel looks even more beautiful than the photos—elegant, historic, and impeccably clean. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making our stay truly comfortable. The only minor note is that there’s a slight sound when walking on the floors, but it's barely noticeable and doesn’t take away from the overall experience. The location is fantastic—just a short metro ride into downtown Montreal. With such charm, comfort, and value, this place feels like a hidden gem. I’d absolutely stay here again.

The rooftop terrace was a real highlight; spending time up there with a drink in hand, enjoying the city views, made the whole experience even better. Royal Victoria College Residence

Staying at Royal Victoria College Residence was a surprisingly good experience for the price. Located just two blocks from McGill Metro and bus stops, it's incredibly convenient for getting around Montreal—perfect for students or budget travelers. The room is dorm-style with shared bathrooms, but the affordability makes up for it: we paid only about one-third of what other hotels charge. Our large room had two single beds, two desks, a spacious walk-in closet, and a small fridge—very functional for short stays. The main downside? No air conditioning. During a July heatwave, the first night was unbearable without fans—no units were available initially, and the room felt stuffy and hot. Luckily, we managed to rent two fans (one per person), which made a huge difference when pointed toward our beds. The windows had no screens, but we were lucky—no mosquitoes on the 5th floor. Facing University Street, there was some street noise, but it was manageable, especially with the fans running. The shared bathroom included two showers, one toilet stall, and three sinks with mirrors. There’s also a separate bathroom with a tub (though it looked rarely used), a sink, and another toilet. Despite sharing the area with a few other guests, we never had to wait for showers in the morning or evening. Towels, hand towels, washcloths, and a bar of soap were provided, though there was no daily towel refresh service. Overall, this was a solid stay given the low cost and unbeatable location. If I return, I’d definitely bring my own fans and mentally prepare for no AC—otherwise, it’s a great value option.

They made the process seamless and stress-free, which meant a lot after a tiring journey. The location is fantastic—close to public transit and all the city’s best spots. Clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed, this place offers excellent value for money. I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting Montreal, whether for business or leisure.

Alt Hostel

This was my first time staying at a hostel, and honestly, it was an unforgettable experience! Montreal is ridiculously expensive during peak season, especially for accommodations, so this place ended up being the most affordable option I could find—two nights cost me over $700 USD, which isn’t great but still better than most alternatives. The location is super close to downtown, making it easy to explore nearby spots like Notre-Dame Basilica, walk through McGill University campus, and even hike up Mount Royal. I stayed in a 10-person mixed dorm with three girls and four guys—only one girl seemed to be from Hong Kong, while everyone else was white travelers. On the first night, I was so exhausted that I started snoring loudly, which apparently woke someone up. A girl gently complained, and wow, I felt instantly embarrassed. I quickly apologized: 'Sorry if I snore again, please just wake me up!' She said 'Thank you' and went back to sleep—though I could tell she was a little resigned. Thankfully, by day three, I bought a train ticket to escape the situation (literally!), and finally got some peace and quiet. Definitely not a long-term stay, but a decent short-term option if you're on a tight budget and just need a base to explore the city.
