Shangri-La Beijing Xiangshan Resort is highly recommended, offering breathtaking mountain and waterfall vistas from its eco-chic suites. Located just 15 minutes by car, the resort features private forest terraces, natural hot springs, and a woodland meditation pavilion. Guests enjoy complimentary shuttle service and access to guided wildlife trails along the San Die Falls stream. The hotel’s commitment to sustainability enhances the immersive nature experience, making it ideal for those seeking tranquility and panoramic beauty.

From San Die Falls, take Bus Line 936 or book a private transfer—both take about 20 minutes to reach Shangri-La Beijing Xiangshan Resort. For self-drive travelers, follow the Jingxi Ring Expressway and exit at "Xiangshan South Gate," where ample parking is available. Many nearby lodges offer complimentary pickup services. Additionally, integration with Beijing Smart Tourism Platform allows seamless HopeGoo and itinerary planning. Real-time updates on road conditions and weather are accessible via official city tourism apps for optimal travel experience.

Beyond viewing the cascading waterfalls, visitors can explore the San Die Gorge Trail with certified eco-guides who highlight native flora and rare bird species. In summer, guided river trekking lets you wade through crystal-clear streams. During winter, join snow photography workshops to capture the serene white landscape. The resort also hosts night sky lectures and nature craft workshops (e.g., fern press-making), blending adventure, education, and creativity into a holistic journey with nature.

Shangri-La Beijing Xiangshan Resort provides family suites with child-safe railings and interactive nature learning kits. On-site activities include a mini farm, pottery workshop, and evening glow-in-the-dark scavenger hunts, engaging children in hands-on fun. Yunquan Pavilion Restaurant inside the resort specializes in Jingxi Mountain Cuisine, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients like wild mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and free-range chicken. Signature dishes include pine mushroom stewed chicken, wild bamboo stir-fry, and honey-grilled kiwi. With an open-air wooden design overlooking the falls, meals are served amid natural sounds and crisp air. Every Saturday evening features a Peking Opera storytelling session, blending culinary delights with traditional cultural performances.

The ideal time to visit is during late spring to early summer (May–June) when rainfall peaks, maximizing waterfall flow and creating a dramatic three-tiered cascade effect. Early morning hours (7–9 AM) offer the clearest light and fewer crowds—perfect for capturing misty dawn shots. Autumn (September–October) brings stunning golden and crimson foliage reflecting on the water’s surface, forming poetic scenes. Use the Beijing Cultural & Tourism Bureau’s real-time portal to check water levels and weather forecasts before arrival, ensuring the best possible visit.

Grand Bay Hotel Beijing

This was my second stay at Grand Bay Hotel Beijing, and it was just as exceptional as the first. Tracy Zhang, our dedicated concierge, was incredibly responsive—always on hand whenever we needed anything. When the room we booked didn’t quite match expectations, she swiftly arranged a replacement that exceeded our hopes. She even went out of her way to locate an Ethernet cable and an HDMI cord—small gestures, but they made a big difference. The hotel’s hot spring complex is beautifully nestled into the hills, offering stunning views across the landscape. With over ten different pools, each with its own unique vibe and scenic outlook, it’s perfect for those who appreciate nature and tranquility. That said, if you’re seeking complete privacy or highly themed family entertainment, this might not be the best fit. The kids’ play area is impressively large—among the biggest I’ve seen in any five-star resort in Beijing, rivaling Club Med, Badaling Jinyu, and Xishan Hot Spring Blue Parrot. Our suite was spacious and well-appointed, with all amenities meeting top-tier standards. The only downside? Prices during peak seasons are a bit steep. Also, the Ethernet port on the desk is non-functional—guests needing a wired connection must use the port behind the bedroom TV, which is about 5 meters away. Tracy managed to find a 2-meter cable, but it’s still inconvenient for guests working remotely. The jade stone sauna experience at the wellness center was oversubscribed, so we couldn’t book it. The indoor air-supported sports arena is huge—basketball, badminton, and table tennis courts all require reservations. Outside, there’s a small ice rink where you can skate or enjoy a fun ice sled ride. Overall, this is a standout destination for a peaceful, scenic retreat with excellent facilities. Despite minor drawbacks, the experience was thoroughly worthwhile.
