However, these were minor issues compared to the overall experience. The hotel’s elegant ambiance, high-quality furnishings, and attention to detail truly stand out. Despite the small setbacks, the location, service, and general luxury make this a top choice for future stays.

But after the closure of the elegant Dining Room at the Ritz-Carlton back in 2011, we’d missed that refined urban retreat experience. This trip to The Talbott was our chance to reconnect with that feeling. Located just steps from the Magnificent Mile at 20 East Delaware Place, this 149-room boutique gem has undergone a stunning transformation by local designer Kara Mann and Joie de Vivre from the West Coast. From the moment we walked in, the fresh, modern aesthetic — warm yet sophisticated — set the tone. We stayed in a spacious 475-square-foot Premium King Room with a king bed, a cozy sitting area, HDTV, mini-fridge, coffee/tea maker, and a safe — perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. The renovation shows in every detail: sleek finishes, thoughtful lighting, and high-end touches throughout. The hotel’s amenities are top-notch — 24-hour front desk, valet parking, free Wi-Fi, concierge service, a stylish bar, 24-hour room service, a quiet library, laundry, business center, luggage storage, on-call doctor, multilingual staff, and even complimentary bikes for city rides. We spent our days shopping on the Magnificent Mile, catching a show, taking a boat tour along the Chicago River, and dining at several Michelin-starred restaurants. It felt luxurious but never pretentious — the kind of stay that makes you feel both pampered and at ease. If you’re looking for a memorable downtown Chicago escape with charm, comfort, and great style, The Talbott is a must-try.

Ray's Bucktown Bed and Breakfast
This place was once Ray's professional photography studio, and as a fellow photographer, I really appreciated the connection. Talking with Ray about birds and his travels was one of the highlights of my stay. The indoor parking was a huge plus—no more worrying about weather or finding a spot. Breakfasts were generous and delicious, and the staff went out of their way to explain all the amenities in the building. There are plenty of fun games for kids, making it a great choice if you're traveling with family. The whole experience felt warm and personal—like staying at a friend’s home. Arrived late at night only to be told there was no room available despite having booked two months in advance. The manager mentioned they tried contacting me during the day, but I never received any call. After some back-and-forth, I was offered a single-bed room instead of the twin-bed one I originally reserved — not ideal, especially after such a long wait. However, after discussing with the platform, I was able to get the first night’s stay waived as compensation. Overall, the hotel’s location is excellent — right in the heart of Magnificent Mile, walking distance to shopping, dining, and attractions. The lounge on the 15th floor is a nice spot to unwind with drinks or a light meal. The room itself is spacious, the bed is comfortable, and the bathtub makes for a relaxing end to the day. Despite the initial check-in hiccup, the staff were polite and responsive. It’s a solid choice if you’re looking for convenience and a good base in downtown Chicago.

We had an amazing time staying at The Robey in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood. The area has such a relaxed, cool vibe with tons of great shops and cafes nearby. It’s stylish, charming, and packed with unique spaces: a rooftop bar, a retro '90s-inspired lounge on the second floor (where you get a free cocktail!), and multiple dining options. We loved both bars—the atmosphere was electric and the drinks were top-notch. Our queen-size room was cozy and well-appointed, though a bit tight for two adults with four suitcases. That said, everything was spotless, towels were changed daily, and the minibar was always stocked. The $25 daily fee covers all beverages, gym access, and pool use—so really, you’re getting value without extra charges. Just be aware: this fee wasn’t clear during booking, so the total price felt higher than expected. Still, it’s totally worth it. The vibe here is one-of-a-kind, service is flawless, and even the bathroom amenities are from Le Labo—yes, that’s a big win. If you're visiting Chicago, don’t miss The Robey. It’s not just a place to stay—it’s an experience.
