Praia Ipanema
Staying at Praia Ipanema was an absolute delight from start to finish. The location is unbeatable—just a short walk to Ipanema Beach and all the local charm. The staff went above and beyond with warm, genuine hospitality that made us feel right at home. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well-appointed, and the breakfast buffet offered a great variety of fresh, delicious options. Prices were very reasonable for such a prime spot in Rio. Honestly, it felt like a hidden gem. The only downside? We heard the hotel might be closing soon—such a shame, as it truly deserves to stay open. Would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Rio, especially if you value comfort, convenience, and heartfelt service.
Gavea Tropical Boutique Hotel
Our stay at Gavea Tropical Boutique Hotel was a major letdown, especially considering we booked it for our first-year anniversary. The promised romantic touches—rose petals scattered on the bed and in the room—were completely missing upon arrival. When we asked the front desk staff, they said they’d place them only after we left for dinner. I asked, 'What if we don’t go out?' and got the reply, 'We’ll still put them.' We spent two hours away enjoying the jacuzzi, but returned to find nothing. The surprise we were promised turned into an empty promise. The complimentary wine offered in the package was just sitting in the fridge—no presentation, no style. When we asked about it, the staff responded with, 'You can pick any of the two!' (Seriously?) Then came the detox juice: advertised as a full pitcher, but at 11 PM we had to message via WhatsApp asking where it was. They admitted they forgot it, then brought two tiny cups—no sugar, nearly undrinkable. We left it there. The view was another disappointment: the brochure promised views of Christ statue and Lagoa, but all we saw was trees. After complaining multiple times, we were moved to a different room. Bathroom water was warm at night, but next morning it was freezing—hot water had run out. The pool water was cloudy and unusable. Breakfast was terrible: milk was gone, cheese wasn’t available, only ham and one odd-shaped bread. No salted bread. Just a few drops of juice in the cooler. Cups and mugs had to be requested, no cutlery. A couple nearby ordered eggs, and the kitchen staff said they were out. Nescau had barely a spoonful left in the jar, and the only dessert was a small orange cake with zero options. We were told an employee had gone to buy cheese, bread, and condiments—but never returned. We waited over an hour. Overall, this experience fell far short of expectations. The service was inconsistent, details were ignored, and the promises made during booking were not kept. It’s hard to recommend this hotel, especially for special occasions.

The service at this hotel was absolutely outstanding. When I experienced a health issue during our stay, the staff went above and beyond to support me and my friend—always attentive, kind, and available whenever we needed them. The hotel itself is beautiful, with a warm and elegant atmosphere, and the location is perfect: just steps away from Ipanema Beach and easy to access by public transit. They offer a beach concierge service, which is such a thoughtful touch, and the breakfast was fantastic—fresh, plentiful, and delicious. Every detail felt cared for. This place truly delivers on comfort, hospitality, and convenience. I can’t recommend it highly enough—definitely my top choice for future visits to Rio.

Unfortunately, my experience was quite negative due to the lack of signage and lighting in the backyard, making the area extremely unsafe for elderly guests and children. I didn’t stay overnight—I only booked a day-use option through the platform for my birthday celebration and that of a close friend. As shown in photo 20, there’s a gap beside the staircase leading down to the yard, which becomes completely invisible at night because there’s no lighting in the area. While descending the stairs, I tripped over the gap and hit my head on a stone, resulting in six stitches above my eyebrow. To clarify—no alcohol was consumed during this incident. This could have easily turned into a much more serious accident. I reported the issue to the couple managing the booking, but they showed no intention to address or fix the hazard. Aside from that, there’s nothing else to comment on since I didn’t actually stay overnight. My only warning to future guests: this property is not recommended for families with young children or older adults due to the significant safety risks.

The apartment is spacious and perfectly located in the heart of Ipanema—just a short walk to the beach, with a vibrant mix of restaurants, cafes, and local shops right outside the door. I loved how close it was to supermarkets, making grocery runs super convenient. The daily housekeeping service kept everything spotless throughout my stay, and the kitchen had all the essentials I needed for simple meals. Clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully equipped—it felt like home. If you're looking for comfort, convenience, and a great location in Rio, this place is a top choice.

Staying here with a friend was such a great experience! The hostel has a super organized and welcoming vibe, with great music, amazing food, and fantastic service. The view from the bar is absolutely stunning—perfect for relaxing and enjoying the night sky over Rio. It’s peaceful yet lively, making it easy to strike up conversations and make new friends. I felt completely at home and already know I’ll be back again soon. A truly memorable stay!

Marcos and his wife were absolutely wonderful hosts—warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. They went above and beyond to ensure our stay in Rio was comfortable and memorable. Marcos speaks fluent English and shared invaluable local insights, from hidden gem restaurants and must-visit attractions to areas to avoid for safety reasons. Their knowledge of the city made our trip so much easier and more enjoyable. We felt truly cared for throughout our visit, and we couldn’t recommend them more highly. If we ever return to Rio, we’d choose them without hesitation.
