And don’t miss hearing about Joanna—the turtle who lives nearby! It’s such a fun little story that adds character to the whole experience. We stayed at BNB Gávea during Carnival, and it was an unforgettable experience. Raul, the host, was incredibly welcoming and patient—always ready to share local tips, recommend hidden gems, and help us navigate the neighborhood. Nature lovers will appreciate how close we were to the Botanical Gardens and the beach—perfect for morning strolls or sunset views. Our room was clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully decorated, with a lovely garden space that felt like a peaceful retreat. We truly felt at home and got to experience Rio like a local. The hospitality, location, and atmosphere made this stay stand out. Without hesitation, we’d return and highly recommend this gem to anyone visiting Rio.

We stayed for a week at this apartment in Leblon, Rio de Janeiro, and overall had a great experience. The unit is simple but well-equipped with everything we needed—especially the bed, which was one of the most comfortable I’ve ever slept on away from home. The concierge staff were warm and helpful, even if English was limited; we managed just fine using Google Translate. The view from the room was absolutely stunning—rolling hills, Leblon Beach, and the vibrant rooftops of Rocinha favela stretching out below. It felt like living in a postcard. My only minor concern was the cleaning service, which came at an extra cost of just over £30. While the cleaner visited daily, they only mopped the floors and took out the trash—towels and bedding weren’t changed all week, which felt a bit underwhelming. Still, that didn’t discourage us from wanting to return. The location, comfort, and views make it a top choice for anyone visiting Leblon.

Unfortunately, my experience was quite negative due to the lack of signage and lighting in the backyard, making the area extremely unsafe for elderly guests and children. I didn’t stay overnight—I only booked a day-use option through the platform for my birthday celebration and that of a close friend. As shown in photo 20, there’s a gap beside the staircase leading down to the yard, which becomes completely invisible at night because there’s no lighting in the area. While descending the stairs, I tripped over the gap and hit my head on a stone, resulting in six stitches above my eyebrow. To clarify—no alcohol was consumed during this incident. This could have easily turned into a much more serious accident. I reported the issue to the couple managing the booking, but they showed no intention to address or fix the hazard. Aside from that, there’s nothing else to comment on since I didn’t actually stay overnight. My only warning to future guests: this property is not recommended for families with young children or older adults due to the significant safety risks.
