I returned to Sofitel Rio de Janeiro Ipanema for a two-week stay in December and stayed in an oceanfront king room. This property continues to impress across every aspect—just as I remembered from past visits, and even better this time around. The hotel is impeccably maintained, with elegant interiors and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Staff are genuinely welcoming, always going the extra mile with smiles and thoughtful service. The breakfast buffet offers classic Brazilian flavors with a wide variety of options, though it feels a bit repetitive day after day. A rotating international section—maybe some Asian-inspired dishes—would add welcome variety. The pool area is fantastic: perfect for relaxing during the day, and the evening live entertainment is consistently high-quality and entertaining. I’m especially impressed by the fitness center—it’s one of the best in all of Rio, well-equipped and spacious. Under General Manager Netto Moreira’s leadership, the hotel runs like a well-oiled machine. Every detail reflects care and attention. It’s clear this team takes pride in delivering excellence. For travelers seeking comfort, style, and top-tier hospitality in Ipanema, this is a standout choice.

Unfortunately, my experience was quite negative due to the lack of signage and lighting in the backyard, making the area extremely unsafe for elderly guests and children. I didn’t stay overnight—I only booked a day-use option through the platform for my birthday celebration and that of a close friend. As shown in photo 20, there’s a gap beside the staircase leading down to the yard, which becomes completely invisible at night because there’s no lighting in the area. While descending the stairs, I tripped over the gap and hit my head on a stone, resulting in six stitches above my eyebrow. To clarify—no alcohol was consumed during this incident. This could have easily turned into a much more serious accident. I reported the issue to the couple managing the booking, but they showed no intention to address or fix the hazard. Aside from that, there’s nothing else to comment on since I didn’t actually stay overnight. My only warning to future guests: this property is not recommended for families with young children or older adults due to the significant safety risks.

The daily housekeeping service kept everything spotless throughout my stay, and the kitchen had all the essentials I needed for simple meals. Clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully equipped—it felt like home. If you're looking for comfort, convenience, and a great location in Rio, this place is a top choice.

Marcos speaks fluent English and shared invaluable local insights, from hidden gem restaurants and must-visit attractions to areas to avoid for safety reasons. Their knowledge of the city made our trip so much easier and more enjoyable. We felt truly cared for throughout our visit, and we couldn’t recommend them more highly. If we ever return to Rio, we’d choose them without hesitation.
