Ipanema Beach House
Absolutely fantastic stay at Ipanema Beach House! The moment we arrived, Frank greeted us with such a warm vibe and exceptional hospitality. He went above and beyond by sharing personalized recommendations on local attractions and hidden gems around Rio. What stood out the most was being able to store our luggage before check-in—perfect for exploring the beachfront or grabbing a drink nearby without rushing. It made our arrival so much more relaxed and enjoyable. From start to finish, this was an outstanding experience. Highly recommend this gem to anyone visiting Rio!
Casa Amarela Guest House - Zona Sul
Absolutely stunning location right by the sea—calm, safe, and incredibly welcoming. Staying with the lovely Lucia was one of the best decisions I made during my trip to Rio. Her home is cozy, clean, and full of charm, and she greets you like family. She’s incredibly helpful, offering practical tips and local insights that made exploring the city so much easier. The breakfast is fantastic—fresh, generous, and delicious. Plus, it’s super easy to get around Rio from here: just a short walk or quick ride to beaches, attractions, and vibrant neighborhoods. And don’t miss hearing about Joanna—the turtle who lives nearby! It’s such a fun little story that adds character to the whole experience. If you’re looking for an authentic, warm, and memorable stay in Rio, this place is a must-book. Highly recommend!

We stayed at BNB Gávea during Carnival, and it was an unforgettable experience. Raul, the host, was incredibly welcoming and patient—always ready to share local tips, recommend hidden gems, and help us navigate the neighborhood. The area is vibrant and safe, with a great mix of cozy bars, authentic restaurants, supermarkets, and a shopping mall just a short walk away. Nature lovers will appreciate how close we were to the Botanical Gardens and the beach—perfect for morning strolls or sunset views. Our room was clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully decorated, with a lovely garden space that felt like a peaceful retreat. We truly felt at home and got to experience Rio like a local. The hospitality, location, and atmosphere made this stay stand out. Without hesitation, we’d return and highly recommend this gem to anyone visiting Rio.
Hostel Varandas do Maracanã
Staying at Hostel Varandas do Maracanã was an absolute highlight of my trip to Rio! The staff, especially Claudia, went above and beyond—so friendly, helpful, and professional. Every interaction felt genuine and welcoming. The hostel is spotless—clean rooms, tidy common areas, and immaculate bathrooms. It’s clear they take pride in their hygiene and upkeep. Location-wise, it couldn’t be better: just cross the street and you’re right in the heart of Maracanã. Everything you need is within walking distance—groceries, a pharmacy, train station, and local eateries. I loved how safe and vibrant the area felt. Breakfast was simple but delicious—fresh fruit, bread, coffee, and juice that made mornings so enjoyable. This place offers amazing value for money and a true local vibe. I’d highly recommend it to any traveler looking for comfort, convenience, and a warm, friendly atmosphere.
Pousada Cantinho da Família
Staying at this place was an absolute nightmare. The property looked nothing like the photos—dirty, poorly maintained, and frankly, unsanitary. We arrived to find mold on the walls, grime on the doors and mattresses, and no toilet paper in the bathroom. The room we were given was tiny, windowless, and overcrowded for three people—so much so that we had to request a different one after being misled by the owner. When I tried calling the house multiple times with questions, no one answered, yet moments later someone opened a door just to let in a cat. I’d sent a message through the platform before arrival, but it went completely unanswered. My daughter was already unwell upon arrival (travel sickness), and though I helped clean up, we didn’t choose to be sick. The lack of communication, basic hygiene, and overall disregard for guest comfort was shocking. There were dogs barking nonstop throughout the night, and the entrance area looked like a trash heap. It ruined the end of our trip—my kids didn’t even want to change accommodations, but I was horrified just sleeping there. Despite the location’s potential and how welcoming most Brazilians are, this experience was far from what it should’ve been. I strongly advise against staying here and believe platforms need stricter oversight to prevent such substandard listings from being available.

Absolutely loved my stay at Maraca Hostel! The accommodation was top-notch—clean, comfortable, and well-maintained throughout my visit. The vibe is super welcoming and lively, making it feel like home from the moment I arrived. Being just steps away from the world’s largest stadium and surrounded by great restaurants made every day enjoyable. Whether I wanted a quick bite or a night out, everything was within walking distance. The staff were friendly and helpful, always going the extra mile. It’s rare to find such a perfect mix of location, cleanliness, and atmosphere in a hostel. I’ll definitely be back and would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Rio—it’s truly one of the best stays I’ve had!

Staying at Bella Ciao Hostel in Rio de Janeiro was one of the most memorable experiences I've had on my trip. The location is unbeatable—just a short walk from the metro and super close to everything worth seeing. The hostel offers incredible value for money, with clean, cozy rooms and a welcoming vibe that makes you feel right at home. The common lounge is perfect for working during the day or hanging out in the evening with board games, movies, and great conversations. The staff and regular guests are genuinely warm and friendly—they go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your time in the neighborhood and the city. Special shoutout to Saulo, the owner—he’s incredibly kind, always available, and truly cares about everyone’s well-being. It’s clear he runs this place with heart. I left feeling like I’d made new friends and discovered a hidden gem. Definitely coming back, and I’ll be bringing my travel buddies next time.

I stayed at Maracanã Hostel Vila Isabel and was thoroughly impressed with the whole experience! The location is one of the biggest highlights—just a short walk from the iconic Maracanã Stadium, making it perfect for concertgoers or football fans. The metro station is literally right around the corner, which made getting around Rio super easy. What really stood out was the incredible value for money—prices are way more affordable compared to other options in the city. I was pleasantly surprised by the bathrooms too—they’re recently renovated, spotless, and well-maintained, showing real attention to cleanliness and upkeep. It’s clear this place cares about guest comfort. Highly recommend this hostel for budget travelers or anyone attending events at Maracanã. A great base with charm and convenience!
Saionara Hotel
This hotel absolutely delivers on its promise! The room was spotless, with fresh and fragrant linens that made for a very comfortable stay. Breakfast was outstanding—worth every penny. The location is fantastic; we walked to the Maracanã Stadium for a game and back without any hassle. Right outside the hotel is a great restaurant and bar, and getting an Uber was never an issue. The 24-hour front desk was incredibly helpful—we needed pharmacy assistance, and they promptly provided the contact info. Staff were polite, attentive, and professional throughout our visit. The only minor downside was the pillow—it could have been a bit higher and more supportive, but honestly, it didn’t detract from the overall experience. We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Rio.
Solar do Cosme
Unfortunately, my experience was quite negative due to the lack of signage and lighting in the backyard, making the area extremely unsafe for elderly guests and children. I didn’t stay overnight—I only booked a day-use option through the platform for my birthday celebration and that of a close friend. As shown in photo 20, there’s a gap beside the staircase leading down to the yard, which becomes completely invisible at night because there’s no lighting in the area. While descending the stairs, I tripped over the gap and hit my head on a stone, resulting in six stitches above my eyebrow. To clarify—no alcohol was consumed during this incident. This could have easily turned into a much more serious accident. I reported the issue to the couple managing the booking, but they showed no intention to address or fix the hazard. Aside from that, there’s nothing else to comment on since I didn’t actually stay overnight. My only warning to future guests: this property is not recommended for families with young children or older adults due to the significant safety risks.

From the moment we arrived, the host welcomed us with such warmth and genuine care—so much so that it felt like coming home. The place is clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed with comfort in mind. The bed was cozy, the space felt safe and welcoming, and the staff went above and beyond to help us with local tips, transportation, and anything else we needed. Their kindness truly made our stay unforgettable. I’ve stayed at many hostels around the world, but this one stands out for its personal touch and attention to detail. If you're visiting Rio de Janeiro and want a memorable, authentic, and affordable stay, this is the place. Can’t wait to come back—thank you for the heartfelt hospitality!
Te Adoro Hotel (Adult Only)
The place was absolutely terrible—run-down, dirty, and in desperate need of renovation. Everything looked worn out and unclean, and the overall condition was disappointing. The room wasn’t hygienic at all, and the facilities were poorly maintained. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone, not even a friend in a pinch. It’s a complete waste of time and money. Definitely not worth it.
