Casa de las Palmas Eco-Lodge is a top choice near the Tulum Monkey Sanctuary, blending traditional Mayan architecture with modern sustainability. Located just steps from the sanctuary, it offers private pool villas and solar-powered amenities, emphasizing eco-conscious design. Guests can easily access Tulum’s ancient ruins in 15 minutes by car, making it ideal for a day trip.

Both properties provide guided nature tours focused on local conservation efforts, offering immersive experiences into Tulum’s rich biodiversity and environmental stewardship.

The Tulum Monkey Sanctuary is just 3 km south of downtown Tulum, making it highly accessible. Renting an electric scooter or taking a local Tuk-Tuk takes only 5–10 minutes to reach the iconic Tulum Ancient Ruins, where you’ll enjoy scenic views of jungle and white-sand beaches along the way.

For Playa Paraíso, head west along the main road for about 8 km (12 minutes). En route, you’ll pass artistic installations inspired by Chichén Itzá, adding cultural flair to your journey. Many eco-lodges offer complimentary shuttle services, allowing guests to effortlessly visit key sites without worrying about transportation logistics.

Beyond observing black-hat capuchins and spider monkeys, the Tulum Monkey Sanctuary provides immersive ecological experiences. Guided educational tours led by conservation experts explain primate behavior, habitat threats, and ongoing protection initiatives.

Interactive stations include tactile exhibits and sound simulation devices that demonstrate animal communication—ideal for children. The sanctuary also hosts monthly nighttime expeditions, where guests explore under flashlight illumination to spot nocturnal species like night monkeys and tree frogs, while hearing stories of Maya mythology related to wildlife.

All proceeds support rewilding programs, ensuring every visit contributes directly to conservation efforts.

Casa Zama is a top-rated eco-lodge offering private pool villas with jungle views, just a 5-minute walk from the sanctuary. Built using local materials and sustainable practices, it emphasizes immersive nature connection, including beachside yoga and guided rainforest walks. Located near Tulum’s ancient ruins and pink-sand beaches, this retreat blends luxury with environmental responsibility, making it ideal for travelers seeking tranquility and authenticity in a pristine coastal setting.

From downtown Tulum, you can rent an electric scooter (around $10–15/day) and ride along the coastal road in about 15 minutes. Alternatively, take a shared shuttle (colectivo) for just $2 per person—frequent and affordable. For comfort and convenience, book a private transfer service, many boutique hotels offer complimentary shuttles. The sanctuary has a parking lot, but arriving early is recommended to avoid peak crowds and secure a spot.

Beyond viewing endangered howler monkeys, the sanctuary provides immersive ecological education. Guided tours reveal natural behaviors like vocalizing, foraging, and social bonding within the primary tropical forest canopy. With shaded rest areas, clean restrooms, and a peaceful atmosphere, it’s an ideal destination for parents seeking both fun and educational value in a safe, natural environment.

Visit between 7:30 AM and 9:00 AM for optimal sightings—monkeys are most active during early hours, often seen leaping through trees and calling loudly. Temperatures are cooler, reducing heat stress. Weekdays are less crowded; weekends attract more tourists and guided groups. While open year-round, the rainy season (June–October) may cause slippery trails—wear non-slip shoes and carry a light raincoat. HopeGoo a guided tour in advance ensures smooth access and enhanced experience.

Photography is permitted, but strictly regulated to protect animals. No flash, telephoto lenses, or remote-controlled drones are allowed—these may startle monkeys. Use standard cameras or smartphones from safe distances, remaining quiet and still. Designated photo zones have clear signage promoting ethical observation. All content must be for personal use only; commercial use or posts that could provoke harassment are prohibited. Guides provide real-time tips to ensure respectful, responsible wildlife photography.

Azura Boutique Hotel

Staying at Azura Boutique Hotel was an absolute delight, especially the two-bedroom apartment which felt like a spacious home away from home. From the moment we walked in, the air-conditioned living area welcomed us with generous space—two sofas and a large dining table for six fit perfectly into this open, airy room. The TV worked flawlessly, and I appreciated being able to plug in my USB device. Free Wi-Fi was strong and reliable throughout our stay. Both bedrooms were comfortably air-conditioned, with plush beds and pillows that made for excellent sleep. Each room came with its own en-suite bathroom featuring powerful showers and 24-hour hot water—no cold surprises here. There’s also a well-stocked vanity with extra toiletries, a chest of drawers, and a built-in wall unit with ample storage for clothes and luggage. Even better, there’s an additional drawer space for anything else you might bring along. Plus, fresh towels, clean bedding, and a safe were provided—storage wasn’t an issue at all. The kitchen is fully equipped if you want to cook or self-cater: gas stove, fridge, microwave, plates, cutlery, cups, and a coffee machine with complimentary pods and tea bags delivered daily. Though a kettle would’ve been nice, everything else was top-notch. What really stood out was the daily cleaning—towels, linens, soaps, shampoos, toilet paper, lotions, and kitchen surfaces were all refreshed every day. My son and his girlfriend stayed in the smaller one-bedroom unit (no kitchen), but it was still very spacious and well-appointed with AC, Wi-Fi, TV, mini-fridge, coffee machine, and even a fold-out sofa bed when needed. The hotel’s location is unbeatable—just 200 meters from Tulum’s main street, with a local Oxxo store right across the road. The rooftop features two charming little plunge pools and is the only designated smoking area—perfect for relaxing with a drink while enjoying the view. Staff spoke limited English but were always friendly and eager to help, whether arranging taxis or planning excursions. Yes, the price is on the higher side—around £170–200 per night for the two-bedroom, and £140–150 for the single bedroom—but honestly, it was worth every penny. This place feels special, thoughtfully designed, and incredibly well-maintained. I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for comfort, privacy, and a touch of luxury in Tulum.

Kai Tulum

What truly stood out at Kai Tulum was the incredible energy of Romana, the yoga instructor and sound healer. Her classes—Yin Yoga with Tibetan singing bowls, slow flow, and abs/glutes sessions—were deeply transformative. She gives her all with a rare blend of physical precision and spiritual presence; you don’t often meet someone so authentically connected to their practice. The yoga and massage pavilion is intimate, beautifully designed, and feels almost magical. The rooms themselves were another highlight—plush beds, charming little decks, and the perfect mix of indoor and outdoor showers. I loved the overall atmosphere and sense of space in each room. The food was delicious too, though the background music occasionally clashed with the peaceful vibe. Still, it’s great that Kai Tulum is right next to Ikal, creating a seamless, complementary experience. This place offers something special—a quiet retreat where nature, wellness, and comfort come together effortlessly.

Highly recommended for anyone seeking relaxation and authentic vibes.

Staying at Lumina at Mareah Tulum was an absolute delight. The moment I arrived, I felt the stress of everyday life melt away. The hosts were incredibly warm and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The property itself is stunning, with a serene, secluded vibe yet just a short drive from downtown Tulum. Waking up to the sound of roosters and jungle birds was such a unique and peaceful experience. And don’t miss the fresh coffee available daily on the upper level—it’s the perfect way to start the day. It’s clear that attention to detail and guest comfort are top priorities here. Moots Tulum

Staying at Moots Tulum was an absolutely fantastic experience overall. The hotel location is perfect—close to the beach and surrounded by beautiful scenery, making it ideal for relaxation and exploration. Everything about the property was excellent: clean rooms, great staff, and a lovely atmosphere. The only minor note is that the gym could use a bit more attention in terms of maintenance, but it’s not a dealbreaker at all. That said, transportation in Tulum is a real challenge—taxis are outrageously expensive. Just one-way from the airport to the hotel cost $1,700, and round-trip would be even more. Moving around town is similarly pricey. We ended up using Uber, which was much more affordable. Renting a car for 5 days and 4 nights came to $4,600, which is steep, but still better than relying on taxis. If you're planning to explore the area, I’d definitely recommend booking a rental car or using ride-sharing apps in advance. Despite the transport headaches, the hotel itself is outstanding—highly recommend for anyone visiting Tulum.

The French owner and his team couldn’t have been more welcoming—warm, friendly, and genuinely attentive. It’s a perfect escape from the crowds of Tulum, offering a serene, authentic vibe that feels like stepping into another world. If you’re looking for a quiet, natural retreat with great hospitality and a touch of charm, this is a must-visit. We’ll definitely be back.

Maison Tulum

This hotel is absolutely charming—feels like a peaceful little oasis surrounded by lush greenery. The location is perfect: just a short walk from the ADO bus station and right in the heart of Tulum’s vibrant area, with plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. My room was thoughtfully equipped with a comfy bed, ample space for luggage, a small table with chairs, a mini kitchenette, a smart TV, reliable hot water, air conditioning, and free filtered water. The manager, Guillermo, went above and beyond—he took time to help me check bus and train schedules, even stored some of my belongings while I visited another city for a few days before returning for my last night in Tulum. I also loved the on-site café; the coffee was rich and aromatic, and the breakfast was fresh and delicious. This place truly stood out for its warmth, convenience, and attention to detail. I’d happily stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting Tulum.
