The suite-style rooms are spacious and beautifully designed, offering excellent privacy and comfort. I slept like a baby on the plush bed, and the air conditioning worked perfectly—ideal for South Africa’s warm climate. The bathroom is well thought out with a clean, dry-wet separation and high-quality fixtures. Staff went above and beyond—greeted me warmly, helped with luggage, offered personalized recommendations for local attractions, and even brought a welcome drink. Breakfast was a highlight: a diverse buffet with both Western and local dishes, fresh ingredients, and freshly ground coffee. Everything felt premium without feeling overpriced. My stay at Coastlands Durban Self Catering Holiday Apartments was extremely disappointing. Early in the morning around 6:45 AM, I realized my phone had been stolen from the room. It turned out a stranger had entered without permission—apparently because staff had told us not to lock the door due to a faulty key card issue. This lack of security is unacceptable. Later that day at around 1 PM, I encountered the manager again and he acted completely unaware, even though he clearly saw me earlier. His response was dismissive and unhelpful. To make matters worse, I also found cockroaches inside the room—this is a serious hygiene concern. The combination of theft, poor management, and unsanitary conditions made this experience truly awful. I won’t be returning, and I strongly urge the hotel to address these critical issues immediately before more guests suffer the same frustration.

Britannia Hotel
This visit was truly disappointing. I’ve been coming to this hotel for years and always enjoyed the excellent food and service, but this recent experience was a complete letdown. The bar staff were arrogant and completely dismissive, taking ages to serve even simple drinks with no courtesy. Management seemed indifferent—no apology, no effort to resolve issues. It felt like the place had gone downhill fast. I can’t imagine returning or recommending it to anyone. This is not the Britannia Hotel I once knew. A real shame.

Our first night was definitely disappointing—the room was small and lacked proper airflow due to its location, making it uncomfortably hot. However, we were truly blessed with an incredible staff member named Mbali, who stepped in and kindly arranged a better room with a balcony. This made all the difference! We were able to stay for the remainder of our booking and even celebrated my husband’s birthday on Sunday—exactly why we booked this trip in the first place. Her kindness turned a stressful start into a memorable experience. The hotel’s overall charm, combined with such exceptional service, makes it worth recommending. I’m already considering returning.
