Hostel Die Wohngemeinschaft
Staying at Hostel Die Wohngemeinschaft in Cologne was an absolute delight. The free coffee and tea available throughout the day were a fantastic touch—perfect for starting the morning right. I especially appreciated the complimentary ginger shots, which felt like a thoughtful wellness boost. With multiple bathrooms scattered across the property, there was never any wait time, even during peak hours. Every room comes equipped with a hair dryer, so no need to pack one. Clean, welcoming, and well-organized, this hostel offers great value for money. I’d definitely stay here again on my next visit to Cologne.

Our group of ninth graders had an absolutely wonderful stay at Hostel Köln. Everything we needed was available, and we truly felt at home. The staff were consistently friendly and helpful throughout our visit. Check-in and check-out went smoothly, and the location made it easy to explore the city by public transit. The basement lounge was a big hit with the students—it was spacious, comfortable, and perfect for hanging out late into the evening. They loved having a relaxed space to unwind after a long day. The hostel exceeded our expectations in every way. A definite recommendation for any school or youth group looking for a welcoming, well-organized, and affordable base in Cologne.

We booked five different rooms for a group stay over the CSD weekend, and every single one had its own charm. But what really stood out was the front desk staff—kind, incredibly helpful, and genuinely warm. We felt so welcome and at home throughout our entire stay. If you're looking for a charming, well-located place to stay in Cologne, this is an absolute must-book. Highly recommended!
Ferienwohnung Bankwitz
I stayed at Ferienwohnung Bankwitz in Cologne and was really impressed overall. The location is excellent—just a short metro ride from the city center, with plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. The apartment is clean, modern, and well-equipped, perfect for a solo traveler. While the bed is on the smaller side, it’s absolutely fine for one person and provided a comfortable night’s sleep. The space feels cozy and thoughtfully designed, and having a kitchenette made meal prep easy. It’s a great value for the price, and I’d definitely choose this place again when visiting Cologne.

Honestly, this place was a complete disappointment. The apartment looked nothing like the photos—definitely misleading. From the moment we walked in, it felt run-down and unclean. The bathroom had a strong ammonia-like smell, which was extremely off-putting. The mattress was only about 5 cm thick with no protective layer, making it uncomfortable to sleep on. The curtains were stained and worn, and the furniture looked hastily thrown together—like it was just slapped in without thought. The linens were charged extra, but they were old, faded, and just tossed onto the bed haphazardly. The kitchen was depressing and bare, with dirty cabinets, missing shelves, and layers of dust everywhere. We ended up refusing to stay despite paying nearly double what we expected. It’s hard to believe such a substandard property is even listed on the platform. This isn’t a hotel—it’s more like a poorly maintained rental unit. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, and I’ll definitely avoid booking here again.
Downtown Ehrenfeld
The stay was extremely disappointing. I booked this hotel for over $150, and it was worse than a hostel. The room was infested with bugs—photos clearly show the issue. Four rooms shared one bathroom and toilet, which were filthy and poorly maintained. The pillows were in terrible condition, filled with lumpy, worn-out stuffing. The room was freezing at night, had no air conditioning, and was incredibly noisy. Overall, the place felt extremely basic and unclean. For the price paid, this experience was unacceptable. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, and I definitely won’t be returning.
Hotel Imperial
Hotel Imperial in Cologne-Ehrenfeld is a charming little gem with excellent value for money. Despite its compact size, it’s incredibly convenient—just a 15-minute U-Bahn ride (lines 3 and 4) from major attractions like the trade fair grounds and Lanxess Arena, making it a smart alternative to more expensive city-center hotels. The rooms are a bit dated but spacious, clean, and well-maintained, with air conditioning that came in handy during summer visits. Breakfast looked appealing, though at €18 per person, it felt a bit pricey—we’d rather grab something on the go. On the plus side, the hotel offers parking spots for guests at €25 per night, which is steep but totally justified given how hard and costly street parking can be in Ehrenfeld after 9 PM. Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay and would definitely recommend this cozy, well-located hotel.
Ruby Ella Hotel Cologne
