From the very first greeting, the service was exceptional—Esther from front desk went above and beyond: upgraded our room, offered a two-hour late check-out without hesitation, and even shared her WeChat for easy communication. That kind of personal touch is rare. Breakfast was an absolute highlight—huge variety, beautifully presented. From freshly steamed dim sum and handmade noodles to a wide selection of breads, oatmeal, fresh fruit, yogurt, and even ice cream, every detail was thoughtfully curated. But what truly stole the show was the garden. Lush green lawns, mature trees casting dappled sunlight, historic buildings nestled among foliage—perfect for quiet strolls or Instagram-worthy shots. Every corner feels like a scene from a film. The pool is clean and refreshingly salty—almost like swimming in the sea! Plus, there are two hot tubs nearby, perfect for unwinding. The high ceilings give it a grand feel, though they do create a slightly imposing atmosphere. Parking is a bit tricky, but that’s a minor downside compared to the overall quality. The breakfast spread was impressive—wide variety, fresh ingredients, and a great vibe with quite a few international guests enjoying their morning meal. What surprised me most? The bedside lamps had no visible switches! I fiddled with them for ages thinking they might be broken. On day two, I asked the front desk, and learned the switch is actually hidden inside a small circular hole on the side of the nightstand—it’s connected to the power cord and just dropped into the hole! Breakfast was outstanding—rich in traditional Chinese dim sum, especially the noodle toppings: mushroom, preserved mustard greens, scrambled eggs with tomatoes, and over ten other varieties—all fresh and flavorful. For those sensitive to caffeine, there were plenty of tea options to choose from, which was thoughtful and appreciated. But the real highlight? The famous Jinjiang Peking Duck. The skin turns a perfect amber hue, crisp yet not greasy, served with a house-made dipping sauce that elevates every bite. The scallions are plump, juicy, and sweet—perfect for cutting through the richness. Service was exceptional too. The concierge greeted me warmly and even offered a vintage-style luggage cart to transport me from the VIP Pavilion to Jinbei Building—a small touch, but it added so much character to the experience. Located on the site of the original 1926-era Cathay Apartments (the same owner as Peace Hotel), the building’s white architectural lines remain strikingly elegant. Since its founding by Ms. Dong Zhujun in 1951, the hotel has welcomed hundreds of heads of state from over 20 countries worldwide—earning its reputation as China’s premier guesthouse for international dignitaries. The garden is spacious and serene, with a stunning lawn that feels like a private oasis. Cleanliness is top-notch, and the blend of timeless heritage with modern comfort makes this stay unforgettable. Perched high in the Shanghai Tower, this hotel occupies floors 86–98 and 101–120—officially recognized as the world’s tallest hotel—and it lives up to every bit of its reputation. The moment you step into the lobby, you’re greeted by a seamless blend of cutting-edge design and traditional Chinese artistry. Our room featured an intricately woven headboard with gold and silver threads, inspired by the shimmering reflections on the Huangpu River—elegant and deeply thoughtful. The bathroom was equally stunning, with a lotus-shaped bathtub that felt like stepping into a serene gallery. Throughout the stay, we were surrounded by over a thousand artworks from both local and international artists—each corner offered something new to admire, sparking endless photo ops. Breakfast was a highlight too: instead of a standard buffet, they offered a menu-based service, which made ordering easy and personalized. The 84th-floor swimming pool is breathtaking—floating above the city with panoramic views that make every lap feel like a moment suspended in time. We also enjoyed a lovely welcome amenity at the lobby lounge—sparkling water and delicate candied fruits that added a sweet touch. Our personal concierge, Miss Xiang, was warm, attentive, and genuinely delightful—her professionalism and kindness made all the difference. From popular stores like Pop Mart and M&M to local favorites such as Lailai Steamed Buns and Shen Dacheng pastries, plus a convenient Lawson for snacks and essentials, there’s no shortage of options. The room was spacious and beautifully appointed, with a comfortable bed and thoughtful touches that made the stay feel luxurious. Breakfast was a highlight—plenty of choices including Chinese, Western, and Japanese dishes, plus a nice selection of sparkling wine to start the day on a high note. It’s rare to find such a great mix of location, comfort, and value. I’d definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting Shanghai.

The room I booked was the smallest option, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a freestanding soaking tub—a delightful bonus I didn’t expect (though I didn’t get to use it!). The location is unbeatable: directly facing Xujiahui Library and the Catholic Church, offering a peaceful morning view.
