The room felt a bit dated after eight years of operation, but that doesn’t mean it’s worn out—just well-used and still in good condition. Cleanliness is top-notch: housekeeping staff came by daily to tidy up, and linens were always fresh and spotless. Location-wise, it’s super convenient—just a 5-minute walk from Mawangdui Subway Station (about 400 meters). You can reach Wuyi Square, Orange Isle, Changsha South Railway Station, or Changsha Railway Station within just 7–8 stops on the metro. Across the street is the Hunan Provincial People's Hospital Mawangdui Branch, and next door is a primary school—quiet and safe. There’s a convenience store right downstairs for late-night snacks or essentials. For food, I’d skip the restaurants directly across the road and instead head left past the school entrance and cross the street—there’s a local gem called “Xu Ge” (a Hunan or home-style cuisine spot) with seriously delicious food. If you’re into Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou, Hubei, Anhui, or Jiangxi flavors, this place is a must-try. A few hundred meters further down that street is packed with milk tea shops, snacks, and sweet treats—perfect for grabbing souvenirs. The owner is warm and welcoming, originally from Jingzhou, with that classic Hunan-Hubei-Chongqing vibe—very friendly and helpful. Parking is plentiful too—both ground and underground spots are available, and it’s free for guests. During National Day, the price increase was surprisingly modest compared to other hotels that tripled their rates. This makes it an excellent value option for travelers looking for comfort, location, and affordability without compromise.

Staying at Happy Hotel was a fantastic experience. The hotel is literally steps away from the metro station—just walk out the door and you're on your way. It’s incredibly convenient for getting around town, whether you’re heading to attractions, shopping at Wanjiali Square, or enjoying street food at Yangfan Night Market. Getting to the train station or airport is also super quick. The room itself is spacious and thoughtfully laid out, with clean bedding and a spotless bathroom—no water spots on the mirror, and the floor was dry and tidy. The staff were warm and attentive, always ready to help with any request. From location to comfort and service, this place truly delivers. I’d definitely stay here again.

The front desk staff were incredibly kind and helpful, going out of their way to assist us with everything. Location-wise, it’s just a 10-12 minute walk to Wanjiali Plaza and Yangfan Night Market—perfect for exploring without needing transport. Wanjiali is massive and packed with affordable shopping and amazing street food. We ended up visiting multiple times, especially since it’s much more comfortable than wandering around Yiyi Square during the sweltering heat. At Yangfan Night Market, we found incredible value: 9 pieces of stinky tofu for just $1.30 (about 10 RMB), compared to only 5 at other areas. Even the small stalls selling toys had great deals—three little building blocks for just $2.70! It really reminded me why I love physical shopping: quality clothes at reasonable prices, and an energetic, vibrant atmosphere. And let’s not forget—the locals are stunning, fashion-forward, and so welcoming. Overall, this trip to Changsha was unforgettable. If you’re looking for comfort, convenience, and authentic local charm, this place is a must-stay.
