Despite that little surprise, the service was excellent, the location is super convenient (close to subway lines), and the room comfort was top-notch. Breakfast was outstanding—rich in traditional Chinese dim sum, especially the noodle toppings: mushroom, preserved mustard greens, scrambled eggs with tomatoes, and over ten other varieties—all fresh and flavorful. For those sensitive to caffeine, there were plenty of tea options to choose from, which was thoughtful and appreciated. But the real highlight? The famous Jinjiang Peking Duck. The skin turns a perfect amber hue, crisp yet not greasy, served with a house-made dipping sauce that elevates every bite. The scallions are plump, juicy, and sweet—perfect for cutting through the richness. Service was exceptional too. The concierge greeted me warmly and even offered a vintage-style luggage cart to transport me from the VIP Pavilion to Jinbei Building—a small touch, but it added so much character to the experience. Located on the site of the original 1926-era Cathay Apartments (the same owner as Peace Hotel), the building’s white architectural lines remain strikingly elegant. Since its founding by Ms. Dong Zhujun in 1951, the hotel has welcomed hundreds of heads of state from over 20 countries worldwide—earning its reputation as China’s premier guesthouse for international dignitaries. The garden is spacious and serene, with a stunning lawn that feels like a private oasis. We stayed at this hotel with our daughter for four nights, and the entire experience was absolutely delightful. The housekeeping team truly stood out—they kept the room immaculate every day, and even noticed when a pack of makeup pads was missing, promptly restocking it without being asked. It’s impressive how attentive they are, especially since we barely used any of the complimentary amenities. Location-wise, the hotel is perfectly situated across from Zhongshan Park, a spacious and beautiful green space ideal for walking with kids. We took full advantage of the nearby trails and enjoyed some relaxing strolls in nature. We booked through a platform, and the deal was outstanding—great value for money. Overall, this was one of our most enjoyable stays, and we’ll definitely be back if we ever return to Shanghai.

From hot dishes to cold appetizers, everything was fresh and well-prepared. I especially loved the smoked tofu with grilled fish—it tasted like something you’d find in a high-end restaurant, and all for just $17 per person. It’s hard to beat that kind of quality at this price. I also want to give a shoutout to a female server with glasses and short hair—her friendly demeanor and genuine smile made the morning even more enjoyable. Even though I didn’t catch her name, she left a lasting impression. This hotel delivers on every level: comfort, service, and value. I’ll definitely be back.
