Everything you need to know about Basic Exhibition Hall - First Gallery

Xi'an Westin Hotel is highly recommended, located just 1.5 km from the museum with complimentary shuttle service. The rooms feature Tang Dynasty-inspired design and some offer panoramic views of the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda. On-site amenities include a Chinese Tea Pavilion and traditional calligraphy workshops, immersing guests in ancient Xi'an culture. It takes only 20 minutes to walk to the main entrance, making it an ideal base for exploring the city’s historical heart.

Take Metro Line 4 to "Beidajie Station," then transfer to bus or walk about 15 minutes. For taxis, input "South Gate of Shaanxi History Museum" into your GPS for precise navigation. Multiple parking facilities, including underground garages and temporary lots, are available around the site, but traffic surges on holidays—public transit is strongly advised. Bike-sharing stations nearby allow easy access to nearby landmarks like the Bell Tower and Drum Tower along the historic axis.

Book a visit to the Tang Dynasty Costume Experience Zone in advance to wear authentic Tang robes and take photos by the exhibition hall. Interactive digital kiosks inside provide deep insights into each artifact’s history. Weekly Saturday guided tours dive into treasures like Qin terracotta warriors and Han bronze mirrors. Hands-on activities such as traditional paper rubbing workshops let you create your own ancient inscription keepsake.

Visit Demaogong Crystal Cake Shop, just a 5-minute walk away, renowned since 1937 for handmade crystal jujube paste cakes. For a more adventurous taste, head to Lao Sunjia Pao Mo at Muslim Street (about 2 km), famous for its rich beef pao mo and cold skin noodles. For fine dining, try Yu Rongzhuang's "Yuyan" Chinese Restaurant, offering a recreated Tang-style banquet with dishes based on ancient recipes, accompanied by classical music performances for a truly immersive experience.

The museum features a Children’s Discovery Corner with interactive sand tables simulating archaeological digs and VR experiences reconstructing the Qin Emperor’s Terracotta Army pits. Weekly Sunday "Little Archaeologist" workshops guide kids through puzzle-solving and weaving pattern tasks led by trained guides. Parents can pick up interactive activity kits with fun questions and reward stickers to enhance engagement. Outdoor play zones with safety features are also available near the main plaza.

Visit between Monday and Thursday before 10:00 AM to avoid weekend crowds. The hall opens daily from 9:00–18:00 (last entry at 17:00), but closes every Wednesday afternoon—plan accordingly. For dramatic lighting, visit after 4:30 PM when sunlight casts unique shadows on Han Dynasty bronze displays. The museum occasionally hosts night exhibitions monthly, extending hours to 9:00 PM, perfect for those seeking deeper, quieter exploration.

Staying at The Westin Xi'an was an absolute highlight of my trip to Xi'an. The location is unbeatable—just steps away from the iconic Great Wild Goose Pagoda and the vibrant Datang Fubu Night Market. Whether you're out late enjoying the nightlife or heading out early for sightseeing, everything is within easy reach. Nearby shopping malls offer plenty of options for retail therapy, and it's super convenient to visit major attractions like the Terracotta Warriors and Huaqing Palace. The hotel itself is beautifully designed with a stunning atrium filled with ginkgo trees—perfectly golden during autumn, creating a breathtaking atmosphere. Despite being in the heart of the city, the place is wonderfully quiet and peaceful. Cleanliness is top-notch, and the breakfast buffet offers a fantastic variety of both Western and Chinese dishes—all fresh and delicious. The staff are warm, attentive, and always ready to help. I was especially impressed by the complimentary museum exhibition on the lower level, which adds a cultural touch to the stay. This isn’t just a hotel—it’s a memorable experience. Tang Dynasty Art Garden Hotel

This stay was absolutely magical—a true escape into a poetic dream. From the moment I stepped in, I felt like I’d wandered into the private retreat of a classical Chinese scholar. The architecture is deeply traditional: a tranquil courtyard complex with bamboo groves, three distinct inner courtyards—one adorned with a statue, another with a gentle fountain and chirping birds, and a covered pavilion perfect for quiet meals or intimate conversations. Red lanterns drape the corridors, while elegant calligraphy from China’s greatest poets lines the walls inside both hallways and rooms. The rooms themselves are furnished with authentic Chinese furniture—slightly worn, but that only adds to the charm and sense of history. The hotel sits just steps away from the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, and within easy reach of the bustling Great Tang Mall, where traditional-style shops, cultural performances, and lively street scenes unfold. Yet despite all the energy outside, the hotel remains peacefully serene. Twice during my visit, a young woman played the guqin in the courtyard—her delicate music drifting through the air, adding an almost otherworldly stillness. The staff were incredibly warm and attentive, even if their English was limited. Their genuine kindness made me feel truly welcomed and at home. I didn’t dine at the restaurant, but every room comes equipped with a small kitchenette, kettle, and complimentary tea—perfect for relaxing moments. This isn’t just a hotel; it’s an experience. I’d recommend it without hesitation to anyone I care about who appreciates beauty, culture, and quiet elegance.

Gentlemen International Hotel

Staying at Gentlemen International Hotel was a great experience overall. The room was spacious and well-designed, offering plenty of comfort and a nice sense of openness. Its location near Sajin Bridge Metro Station made getting around the city incredibly convenient—just a short walk to the station. I especially loved the outdoor breakfast setup; it had a relaxed vibe with fresh, delicious food—my highlight was the hot congee and freshly baked bread, which tasted fantastic. That said, I did have two small suggestions: the ¥100 deposit for the umbrella seems a bit high for such a small item, and it might be worth reconsidering. Also, no one at the front desk asked if I was driving, which is something I’d expect from a higher-end hotel—proactively offering parking information or assistance would make the stay even more seamless. These are minor points, but with a perfect 10/10 rating, this hotel is already very close to excellence. Just a few thoughtful touches could make it truly outstanding.

I also loved the serene chess area, and there’s even a dedicated table tennis zone for kids—perfect for keeping little ones entertained. Free afternoon tea snacks and access to a laundry facility were thoughtful touches. Plus, free parking made arriving and leaving stress-free. Everything you’d need is within walking distance—shopping malls, restaurants, and more. The front desk team was incredibly patient and helpful throughout. Grand Soluxe International Hotel

Staying at Grand Soluxe International Hotel during my family trip to Xi'an was an absolutely flawless experience—so much so that I ended up extending my stay by two extra nights! Initially, I booked three nights because of the great value and unbeatable location near the train station and Wukou Metro Station. The hotel is perfectly positioned—just a short walk from metro lines and bus stops, making it incredibly easy to explore key attractions like the City Wall, Big Goose Pagoda, and ancient Daming Palace. Special shoutout to Mr. Wei Xinglong from the concierge team—he went above and beyond helping with luggage and package collection, always cheerful and efficient. The front desk staff, Xiao Hao and Xiao Liu, were warm, professional, and attentive. When we mentioned the room felt a bit warm on our first night, they immediately upgraded us to a larger suite at no extra cost—a truly unexpected and thoughtful gesture that made our trip even more memorable.
