The overall environment is spotless and welcoming. However, one aspect stood out negatively: the front desk staff’s attitude during our check-out process. We had just left the room and needed to quickly return to store our luggage before heading into the city to pick up some souvenirs. There was no one else around, and we weren’t blocking anything—we were as quick and considerate as possible. Despite that, the staff reacted with clear impatience, rushing us with sharp tones and uninviting body language. It felt unnecessarily harsh, especially since we weren’t causing any disruption. A little more empathy and flexibility would have made a big difference in our experience. That said, the hotel’s comfort, location, and amenities still make it a solid choice. With better guest service, this could easily be a 10/10 stay.
VR Auckland City
My husband and I stayed at VR Auckland City for seven nights, and we absolutely loved our experience. The front desk staff, Thea, was incredibly welcoming and helpful during check-in—her friendly attitude set the tone for our entire stay. What stood out most was the hotel’s compact but well-equipped kitchen: it has a microwave, stove, oven, dishwasher, fridge, and even a washing machine. While the washing machine was temporarily out of order, the hotel offered free laundry service, which was a fantastic touch. The location is unbeatable—right in the heart of Auckland, with plenty of restaurants nearby and Sky Tower just a short walk away. Being able to buy groceries and cook our own meals made us feel like locals. It’s a perfect blend of comfort, convenience, and authenticity. Highly recommend this place if you want to live like a New Zealander while exploring the city.
Ascotia Off Queen
This was our first stay at Ascotia Off Queen, and we were thoroughly impressed with the experience. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome throughout our two-night visit. (Quick note: the deposit is $250, not the $100 listed on the platform—we paid in cash and got it fully refunded upon checkout with zero hassle.) On the ground floor, opposite reception, there’s a cozy dining area offering both à la carte and buffet options, all priced fairly and served with care. Parking is limited, so booking ahead is strongly advised. We had no trouble finding a spot, though tight for larger vehicles—still manageable. Our room was compact but spotless and comfortable. The bed was clean and supportive, and the bathroom amenities—shampoo, body wash, and lotion—were thoughtfully provided. The only minor downside was limited storage space for luggage and a very small trash bin. Overall, this place exceeded our expectations. Great location, excellent service, and a really welcoming vibe. Highly recommend!
Kiwi International Hotel
We booked a three-bed room for our business trip, and the Kiwi International Hotel had exactly what we needed—one room with two beds and another with a single bed.
