Everything you need to know about Changpu River

The Peninsula Beijing is an ideal choice, located just 1.5 km from Chángpú River Park, offering elegant accommodations and direct access to the Beijing Subway Line 1, connecting swiftly to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. The hotel features a world-class spa, rooftop pool, and personalized butler service, ensuring a luxurious stay.

Another top option is JW Marriott Hotel Beijing, situated in the heart of Wangfujing District, within walking distance to both the park and historic sites. Its modern design blends seamlessly with traditional Chinese aesthetics, and it provides free shuttle services to major landmarks. Both hotels offer complimentary Wi-Fi, concierge assistance, and multilingual staff, making them perfect for travelers seeking comfort and convenience while exploring Beijing’s cultural core.

Visitors can participate in traditional Chinese garden tours that highlight the park’s historical role as a tributary of the Forbidden City’s moat system. Guided walks reveal hidden pavilions, ancient stone bridges, and seasonal floral displays tied to imperial rituals.

Every weekend, the park hosts tea ceremony performances and Peking Opera mini-shows at the riverside stage, creating immersive cultural moments. The 24 Solar Terms Sculpture Trail along the riverbank offers educational insights into Chinese agrarian traditions through artistic installations.

Nearby, Liulichang Cultural Street features hands-on workshops in paper cutting, calligraphy, and cloisonné enamel art, led by master artisans. During spring, the annual Chángpú Poetry Festival brings together poets and scholars for classical recitations beneath lantern-lit trees—offering a rare glimpse into China’s literary heritage.

From Chángpú River Park, walk approximately 10 minutes to Tiananmen East Station on Beijing Subway Line 1. A single stop takes you directly to Tiananmen West Station, just 3 minutes away. Alternatively, stroll east along Dong Chang'an Avenue (1.5 km) past the Monument to the People's Heroes and National Museum for scenic views.

To reach the Forbidden City, exit southward from the park and head down Donghua Men Street—a 12-minute walk. En route, pass by Tai Miao Temple and Jingshan Park, where you can climb to the summit for panoramic views of the palace complex. For faster travel, use shared e-bikes available at multiple docking stations nearby, with QR code access via mobile apps.

All major transit points offer wheelchair accessibility and free rental services, ensuring inclusive access for all visitors. Use Beijing Transit Card or mobile payments for seamless transfers across the city’s integrated transport network.

Chángpú River Park itself is a family oasis, featuring a children’s interactive fountain zone and a spacious family lawn area perfect for picnics and games. During summer, professional instructors lead outdoor physical activities and nature scavenger hunts.

Adjacent Jingshan Park offers a large slide, climbing wall, and a viewing platform at the summit—ideal for kids to explore while enjoying sweeping views of the Forbidden City. Nearby, Liulichang Children’s Museum presents hands-on exhibits on traditional toys and folk arts, plus role-play events that teach cultural values through play.

The Capital Library Youth Branch hosts weekly storytelling sessions and craft workshops, including “Young Storyteller Contests” every Saturday afternoon. Parents can relax in cozy lounges with coffee and light snacks while children engage in creative learning. With high greenery coverage and clean air, this area is one of Beijing’s most child-friendly destinations.

Try Du Mántou Restaurant’s signature dumplings, especially their "Three-Fillings Shrimp Dumplings" with rich broth and hand-rolled dough—perfectly balanced and beloved by locals. Nearby Wangfujing Food Street features century-old stalls like Bàodù Zhāng, serving authentic Inner Mongolian-style tripe with garlic vinegar sauce, and Tánghúlu Liú, famous for fresh hawthorn fruits coated in caramelized sugar.

For a refined taste of Beijing cuisine, visit Quanjude Wangfujing Branch, renowned for its Peking duck roasted using traditional open-fire methods. The crispy skin, tender meat, and accompanying pancakes and cucumber strips deliver a complete sensory experience.

Evening highlights include Nanchizi Night Market, where street vendors serve zhájiàngmiàn (fried sauce noodles), dòuzhī (fermented soy milk) with fried dough sticks, and festive lantern displays during Lunar New Year. All restaurants accept WeChat Pay and Alipay, and many offer takeaway gift boxes ideal for sharing or packing a picnic by the river.

The optimal visiting period is late spring to early autumn (April to October), when the Chángpú flowers bloom in soft purple hues, creating a dreamy riverside landscape. Spring (April–May) brings cherry blossoms and magnolias in full bloom, while autumn (September–October) features golden ginkgo trees casting warm light over the water.

Winter offers a different charm: the park hosts ice sculpture exhibitions and lantern festivals during Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival, with red lanterns strung along the banks and festive decorations. For quiet visits, avoid national holidays and opt for weekdays in the morning or late afternoon to enjoy serene pathways and unobstructed photo spots.

The park provides smart tour guides and audio commentary kiosks for enhanced visitor experience. Open daily from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM (extended to 10:00 PM in summer), it remains accessible year-round with excellent lighting and security measures.

Staying at Blossom House·Hou Hai Beijing in Yangfang Hutong was such a delightful experience. The location is unbeatable—just a short walk from Houhai Lake and the Drum Tower, making it perfect for exploring Beijing’s historic heart. The hotel’s interior design stands out with its creative use of irregular shapes, which might not be everyone’s taste, but I appreciated the unique character. What truly impressed me was the comfort of the bed—excellent mattress and high-quality linens made for a restful night’s sleep. Breakfast offered both set menus and à la carte options, so there was something for everyone, and nothing went to waste. The staff—Liu Linlin, Xiao Xi, and Xiao Zheng—were incredibly warm and attentive. They helped with luggage, offered free yogurt and fresh fruit, and always had a smile. The PuXuan Hotel and Spa

Staying at The PuXuan Hotel and Spa in Beijing was a delightful experience overall. The room size was just right—not too cramped, not overly spacious—and being just steps from the metro made getting around the city incredibly convenient. The twin beds were slightly smaller than expected, but the mattress was so comfortable that I slept like a baby. Breakfast was a highlight, especially the eggs—perfectly cooked with a crispy exterior and soft center. However, the wonton soup could use more depth in flavor. Adding some rice noodles or vermicelli dishes, maybe even a spicy beef noodle option, would be a great addition to the menu. Despite minor room for improvement, the hospitality, location, and value for money made this stay truly memorable. I’d definitely come back here on my next trip to Beijing!

Hotel New Otani Chang Fu Gong

We’ve made it a family tradition to ring in the New Year at this hotel every year, and it’s become one of our most cherished rituals. On New Year’s Eve, we enjoy a warm bowl of soba noodles at the second-floor Japanese restaurant — the atmosphere is cozy and festive. The next morning, we sip traditional tosukuri sake and savor a delightful Japanese breakfast before heading out on bikes to Jingshan Park to welcome the first rays of sunlight. This year, I was truly impressed by the improved service — the dining area has been upgraded with a fresh, modern touch, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. It’s not just a hotel for us; it’s a place where we connect with culture and create lasting memories. We’re so grateful for the warmth and attention to detail. Here’s hoping they keep raising the bar — this place means something special to us, and we’ll definitely be back again.
