Kyo Ryokan Gekkou-an

Everything about our stay was absolutely perfect—from the moment we arrived to the last goodbye. The real magic came from Shin and Shohei, who embody Japanese hospitality in every way. From a seamless check-in process to answering every question with warmth and patience, they went above and beyond. They even helped plan a custom itinerary complete with Google Maps, arranged a private matcha tea ceremony, secured fantastic dinner reservations, and ensured everything was spotless and welcoming. No request was too small, and their kindness made us feel like family. The ryokan itself is stunning—a beautifully restored traditional Kyoto townhouse with modern comforts seamlessly integrated. We especially loved our private Zen garden and the onsen tub, which offered the perfect retreat after exploring the city. The beds were spacious and incredibly comfortable—sleeping like babies all night long. If you're planning a trip to Kyoto, look no further. This is hands down the best experience we’ve had, and we can’t recommend it enough.

The staff, especially the lady in charge, was incredibly gracious and spoke fluent English with a warm, welcoming attitude. She made our stay so much more personal and comfortable. The amenities were top-notch, and I was thrilled by the large bathtub—perfect for soaking after a long day of exploring Kyoto. Location is great too, just a short walk from major attractions like Gion and Fushimi Inari. This place offers such a unique blend of traditional charm and modern comfort. Sakuraya・Akagane Kyoto Station Japanese Style Villa

Staying at Sakuraya Akagane was an absolute delight! The traditional Japanese house vibe is so authentic and cozy, with all amenities thoughtfully provided. What really stood out was the host’s incredible attention to detail—before arrival, they messaged via WhatsApp with helpful tips for check-in, plus recommendations for nearby supermarkets, convenience stores, and parking spots. They even had little snacks ready for the kids! It felt like a warm, personal welcome. Located just steps from Kyoto Station, getting around the city is super easy. This place offers comfort, charm, and excellent value—all in one. I’d happily come back again!

Sakuraya・Senmoto Kyoto Station Japanese Style Villa

Staying at Sakura Villa Senmoto was an absolute delight! Nestled in a quiet residential area, it offers peace and tranquility while still being just a short walk from major attractions like Tō-ji Temple. The villa is immaculate—spotless, well-furnished, and thoughtfully designed with two spacious bedrooms and two full bathrooms, perfect for families or groups. Everything you need is right there: clean linens, modern appliances, and thoughtful touches throughout. The neighborhood is super convenient too—local convenience stores and supermarkets are within walking distance, making daily errands easy. Our host was incredibly welcoming and helpful, offering great local recommendations, including a fantastic yakitori spot nearby that we absolutely loved. The location is ideal for exploring Kyoto on foot, yet feels peaceful and private. High-quality amenities, warm hospitality, and unbeatable value—this place truly stands out. I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto.

Ryokan Tori

Staying at Ryokan Tori was an absolute delight from start to finish. The moment I stepped in, I was greeted by authentic Japanese charm—simple, elegant, and deeply rooted in tradition. Though the exterior looks classic and serene, the interior is surprisingly modern and well-equipped, making it both comfortable and convenient. The room was spotlessly clean, with attention to detail that made me feel truly cared for. The highlight? Private onsen access—relaxing in my own hot spring under the stars was pure bliss. And the owner went above and beyond by arranging a traditional Kyoto matcha ceremony. Sipping tea while watching the graceful performance felt like stepping into another era. This isn’t just a stay—it’s an experience. If you’re visiting Kyoto and want something genuine, intimate, and unforgettable, this ryokan is a must-visit.

ROKU KYOTO, LXR Hotels & Resorts

Staying at this hotel was an absolute delight from start to finish. The room was spacious and incredibly comfortable, with a soothing in-room hot spring bath that made it easy to unwind after a long day. The outdoor pool is fed by natural hot springs—truly unique! I wish I’d brought my swimsuit, as I missed out on soaking in the warm waters, but I’ll definitely make up for it next time. Every corner of the property feels like a scenic masterpiece—beautifully designed with attention to detail, perfect for photography or just quiet contemplation. Breakfast was exceptional: a wide variety of fresh, delicious options ranging from local Japanese specialties to classic Western dishes. It felt indulgent and satisfying, exactly what you’d want to kick off your day. The service was attentive without being intrusive, and the overall atmosphere exudes luxury and serenity. This place isn’t just a hotel—it’s a retreat. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a memorable, authentic Kyoto experience.

Aman Kyoto

Staying at Aman Kyoto felt like stepping into a peaceful retreat hidden within the heart of Kyoto. The property is quiet and secluded, with its own little forest that makes evening strolls after dinner incredibly relaxing. Even though it was late in the maple season, the autumn ambiance still lingered beautifully—just a bit sparse on the red foliage from the room windows. Service was exceptional—each night brought a different sweet treat delivered to our room, a lovely personal touch. Afternoon tea was elegantly presented and deliciously crafted. The snow crab kaiseki dinner stood out as truly memorable, with exquisite flavors and thoughtful presentation. We stayed for three nights, and every moment felt luxurious and restorative. If you're looking for a serene, high-quality getaway in Kyoto, this is absolutely worth it.

Suiran, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Kyoto

We first stayed at Suiran over ten years ago during our honeymoon, and it left an unforgettable impression on us. Returning to the hotel this time was truly magical—so many thoughtful touches made us feel like old friends. From the personalized welcome to the beautifully decorated room and exquisite dining experiences, every detail reflected elegance and care. The upgrade we received was beyond expectations, and the staff went above and beyond to make our visit special. It’s rare to find a place that combines timeless charm with such exceptional service. We felt completely pampered and deeply appreciated. This isn’t just a hotel—it’s a destination filled with memories and emotion. We’re already planning our next visit and can’t wait to return.

MUNI KYOTO

Staying at MUNI KYOTO was a pleasant surprise, especially for travelers who value quiet and space. The room is noticeably larger than average for a Japanese city hotel, making it feel more spacious and comfortable—perfect if you're looking to unwind after a long day of exploring Kyoto. The breakfast options are fairly basic with limited variety, but they’re adequate and satisfying enough to start the day. The surrounding area is peaceful and residential, which I really appreciated for a restful stay. That said, the location isn’t ideal for quick access to public transit—walking about 8 minutes to the nearest subway station is required. If you’re not in a rush or don’t mind a short stroll, it’s manageable. Overall, this hotel offers great value for those seeking a calm retreat away from the crowds, with a good balance of comfort and simplicity. Highly recommended for travelers who prioritize peace over convenience.

Kyoto Arashiyama Onsen Kadensho (Kyoritsu Resort)

Staying here was an absolute delight from start to finish. The traditional inn experience with a stay-and-meal package is classic and perfectly executed. Dinner featured a beautifully presented kaiseki course, and the tempura was generously served with unlimited refills—perfect for food lovers. The private onsen was easy to book, usually available within 30 minutes, and enjoying both indoor and outdoor baths was a real treat—the water temperature and atmosphere differ nicely, offering something special for every mood. Best of all, it’s just a 6-7 minute walk to the iconic Togetsukyo Bridge, making it ideal for early morning strolls through serene riverside views. This place truly captures the essence of Japanese hospitality and tradition. If you're looking for an authentic, memorable stay in Kyoto, this is absolutely worth considering.

My stay at Kuraya Nanseicho was absolutely fantastic! The location is perfect—just a short subway ride from Gion, and surrounded by great restaurants and local charm. The hotel blends traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern minimalist design, creating a serene and stylish atmosphere from the moment you walk in. The room was immaculate, cozy, and well-appointed—bed was just right, and I slept like a baby. The bathroom stood out with its excellent shower setup and high-quality toiletries.
