We ended up switching from the soon-to-be-closed Yangcheng Lake Banyan Tree—our original plan was a last-minute escape. Choosing Four Seasons Suzhou turned out to be one of our best decisions. The location is unbeatable: directly on the lake, with a peaceful walkway along the water that’s easy and relaxing. The hotel itself isn’t huge, so you can easily explore it without feeling overwhelmed. Our room was spacious and well-proportioned, with two single beds and a sofa that converted into an extra bed—perfect for three of us, and we all slept comfortably. We upgraded in-house for a small fee to a higher-floor lake-view room, and the view was absolutely stunning. Waking up to the calm, glass-like surface of Jinji Lake instantly lifted our mood. Dining was a bit tricky—we didn’t pre-book the Chinese restaurant, and every seating was fully booked. We tried the buffet instead, which was solid but nothing extraordinary. Still, compared to the previous hotel where the air conditioning broke in the Chinese restaurant and the Western dining only served breakfast, this was a major improvement.
