I stayed at HomeBase Melville Hostel for over two weeks, and it quickly became my favourite spot in Johannesburg. The hostel is located within a secure compound, making it feel safe and welcoming—perfect for solo travelers or those looking to settle in for a while. The Wi-Fi is reliable, the hot showers work great, and having access to shared kitchens makes cooking your own meals easy and cost-effective. The staff are genuinely friendly and always ready to help—especially appreciated after I was mugged downtown. They went above and beyond to support me, which made a huge difference. The neighborhood itself is vibrant: 7th Street is packed with restaurants and bars, ideal for evening outings. Just a short walk away, you’ll find the Koppies Nature Reserve and Botanical Gardens—great spots for hiking, fresh air, and escaping city chaos. Supermarkets like Spar and Pick&Pay are conveniently close, so grocery runs are hassle-free. Getting into the city is simple too—public transport options include the Rea Vaya C4 and T3 bus lines, which are affordable and efficient. For more flexibility, Bolt and Uber taxis are reasonably priced outside peak hours. Overall, this hostel offers a fantastic balance of safety, comfort, convenience, and local charm. Highly recommended for anyone exploring Joburg on a budget.
I stayed at Fernrez@363 Hostel during my time working around Sandton, and I must say it was a great choice. The location is super convenient—just a short walk from the city center and easy to reach via public transport. The hostel itself is quiet and peaceful, which made it perfect for relaxing after a long day at work. It's also very affordable, offering solid value for money without compromising on comfort. Khethiwe, the staff member I interacted with, was incredibly helpful and always went the extra mile to accommodate my needs. Knowing I could rely on them made my stay stress-free, especially when juggling a busy schedule. While the place isn’t flashy, it’s clean, well-maintained, and offers a welcoming atmosphere. If you're looking for a reliable, no-fuss base in Johannesburg with friendly service and good value, this is definitely worth considering.
Staying at Timebridge Mansion was a great experience for our trip to Johannesburg. The location was perfect—quiet yet close to everything we needed, and the room was cozy, clean, and well-maintained. Host Sonny went above and beyond with his warm hospitality—he shared local tips, made us feel welcome, and was always available when needed. We’d definitely stay here again if we ever return to this part of the city. One thing to note: the driveway is quite steep, so low-clearance vehicles should proceed with caution. With a bit of practice, it’s manageable, but worth mentioning for those driving a compact or lowered car. Overall, a fantastic stay with excellent value and a welcoming atmosphere.
We arrived quite late, but the staff still managed to check us in without any hassle. The pool was spotless and we made great use of it the next day—it was perfect for relaxing after a long day. The kitchen was fully equipped and self-catering, which made preparing meals super convenient. The team went above and beyond with their warm welcome; they truly made us feel at home. We especially loved the braai area and the peaceful garden space—ideal for chilling out or gathering with friends. Everything about the stay was excellent, from the cleanliness to the hospitality. This place has definitely earned a spot on our list for future trips to Johannesburg.
Staying at this hotel was an absolute delight from start to finish. The staff went above and beyond with their warm hospitality and attention to detail—every interaction felt personal and genuine. The rooms are spacious, impeccably clean, and beautifully designed with modern comforts. I especially loved the breakfast spread—fresh, delicious, and full of local flavors that truly made the experience memorable. Location-wise, it’s perfectly situated for exploring Johannesburg’s vibrant city center, yet feels peaceful and secluded. The overall service level is exceptional, making every moment feel luxurious and stress-free. This isn’t just a place to stay—it’s a must-visit destination for anyone seeking quality, comfort, and a touch of elegance. I’ll definitely be returning.
If I could give more than 10 stars, I would have absolutely done it here—this place was truly exceptional! Nestled in a luxurious neighborhood, the area feels safe and peaceful, while the villa itself is beautifully appointed with tasteful decor and stunning artwork throughout. It’s the perfect retreat if you’re looking for tranquility, security, discreet hospitality, indulgent experiences, great food, and just a little movement—all without being far from attractions, thanks to affordable Uber rides. We had the best breakfasts of our entire three-week trip across South Africa (and 11 different stays!), plus memorable lunches and dinners featuring creative, standout dishes and surprisingly affordable wines. On our final day, we treated ourselves to a duo relaxation massage—perfectly arranged and utterly blissful. We stayed in the Cliffside room: spacious, elegant, with a gorgeous bathroom, private terrace, and garden overlooking the cliff. We even climbed up to the top for breathtaking panoramic views—absolutely unforgettable. The main pool area, with its incredibly comfortable loungers, wrapped up the experience perfectly. The staff are incredibly kind and professional, striking the ideal balance between boutique hotel charm and private villa freedom—so you can unwind without feeling isolated or confined. If we ever return to Johannesburg, this will be our first choice without hesitation.
I can't say enough good things about Ten Bompas Hotel. After growing skeptical of the boutique hotel label—often meaning overpromised, overpriced, and underdelivered—I was pleasantly surprised to find that Ten Bompas is the real deal. As one of South Africa’s original boutique properties, it truly lives up to its reputation. The staff throughout the property were exceptional—from front desk to housekeeping. We arrived after a long trip through Namibia with a huge load of laundry, and I was shocked to discover that laundry service was included at no extra cost. Kudos to the housekeeper who handled everything so efficiently—she absolutely earned her tip! Every team member embodies what hospitality should be: warm, thoughtful, and genuine. I especially want to highlight General Manager Sean for his outstanding leadership and personal touch. But honestly, every single person we interacted with made us feel welcome. The food was another highlight—the chicken was hands-down the best I’ve had in South Africa. And yes, the fireplace is wood-burning—a rare and delightful touch these days. If you get the chance to stay here, don’t hesitate. It’s a true gem, and worth every penny.
Staying at B&B on 8th Avenue was an absolute highlight of our trip to Johannesburg. Denise, the host, is incredibly warm and attentive—always ready to help with recommendations or just a friendly chat. The location in Melville is perfect: quiet yet walkable to all the local gems. We loved strolling along Melville’s main avenue, where there are so many great cafes, restaurants, and bars. Plus, it’s just a short walk to the botanical garden—ideal for a peaceful morning escape. This B&B offers a genuine sense of home away from home, with a cozy atmosphere and top-notch hospitality. If you're looking for a charming, central spot in JNB, this is the place to stay.
This is our second visit to Liz at Lancaster Guesthouse, and we were thrilled to stay in the same room as before—everything felt familiar and welcoming. Nestled in the bustling northern suburbs of Johannesburg, this place offers a peaceful retreat from the city’s fast pace. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. Our room was immaculately clean throughout our stay, with cozy bedding and thoughtful touches that made all the difference. It’s a great spot for travelers who want a quiet, comfortable base while still being close to everything the city has to offer. We’d definitely come back again—highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxed, well-run guesthouse in a convenient location.
I absolutely loved staying at Claires of Sandton Luxury Guest House—this place truly feels like home. The atmosphere is peaceful and welcoming, with a cozy charm that makes you want to stay longer. It’s incredibly convenient, just a short walk from the American Embassy, Mandela Square, and Sandton Mall, making it perfect for both business and leisure travelers. The attention to detail, comfort, and warm hospitality made my trip unforgettable. I’ve stayed here multiple times and will always give it 5 stars. If you’re looking for a serene, well-located, and genuinely comfortable retreat in Johannesburg, this is it.
This place is truly a hidden gem. The location is perfect—quiet and peaceful, yet still within easy walking distance of restaurants, bars, and local shops. I even walked to the Johannesburg Botanical Garden without any hassle. Grocery stores and pharmacies are just a short stroll away, making daily essentials super convenient. Jamie, who runs the property, is incredibly friendly, responsive, and genuinely helpful—always ready to assist with tips or recommendations. I stayed here twice, each time in a different cottage, and both were clean, well-maintained, and full of charm. On my second visit, I was upgraded to Cottage 4—the one I affectionately called my 'Princess Tower'—and it was absolutely stunning. Spacious, cozy, and beautifully decorated, it felt like a little retreat all its own. The driver Chris, recommended by Jamie, was also fantastic—he’s reliable, professional, and went out of his way to help me on multiple occasions. From start to finish, the experience was seamless and memorable. This isn’t just a stay—it’s a home-away-from-home with heart.
This place is absolutely my favorite hotel in Johannesburg! The ambiance is simply perfect—calm, stylish, and full of character. I loved the view from the room, which made every moment feel special. The staff went above and beyond with their kindness and attention to detail—truly unforgettable. The meals were exceptional, especially breakfast, which was fresh, delicious, and thoughtfully prepared. It’s clear that passion goes into every aspect of the experience. I can’t wait to come back again—it’s already on my list for next trip!
