Everything you need to know about Gul Camii

Stay at Fatih Palace Hotel, a boutique gem just a 5-minute walk from the Rose Mosque. This elegantly restored Ottoman-style property blends historical charm with modern luxury, featuring private courtyards that offer serene views of the mosque’s iconic pink domes and intricate tilework. Guests enjoy exclusive guided tours to experience the mosque’s tranquil morning prayers in perfect harmony with its spiritual atmosphere.

The hotel’s central location places you within walking distance of Hagia Sophia and the Grand Bazaar, making it ideal for travelers seeking both cultural immersion and convenience. Its personalized service and authentic ambiance elevate the Istanbul experience beyond standard accommodations.

Take the M2 Metro Line to "Fatih Station," then walk about 8 minutes along Iskender Pasha Street toward the Rose Mosque. This route avoids heavy traffic and offers glimpses of traditional shops and historic facades along the way. For convenience, use a local ride-hailing app like BiTaksi—ensure your destination is set to "Şehzadebaşı Mahallesi, İstiklal Caddesi" for accurate routing.

Visiting early in the morning or late afternoon is ideal: fewer crowds, softer light for photography, and a more peaceful atmosphere. Some tour operators also offer private transfers with guided entry, including multilingual commentary and access to restricted areas, perfect for first-time visitors seeking an immersive experience.

Participate in the daily Fajr prayer at dawn—the mosque’s call to worship resonates through the quiet streets, offering a profound spiritual moment. On weekends, local artisans host craft workshops in historic homes, teaching traditional skills like Turkish carpet weaving, spice blending, and ceramic painting, all organized by community groups with low-cost or donation-based fees.

Wander into nearby antique bookshops to discover rare Persian poetry collections and Ottoman manuscripts. Or sip rose tea at a café beside the mosque square, paired with homemade walnut pastries, embracing the rhythm of slow, mindful living. These authentic encounters provide deeper insight into Istanbul’s artistic heritage and everyday spirituality.

The Rose Mosque stands out for its pink marble dome and vivid turquoise and green mosaic tiles, designed by master architect Mustafa Ağa in the 17th century, blending Byzantine and Ottoman styles. Intricate geometric patterns and Arabic calligraphy adorn the roof, symbolizing divine order.

Inside, a sophisticated natural lighting system channels sunlight through high windows, causing the mosaics to shimmer with iridescent hues throughout the day. The mosque features a dedicated women’s prayer gallery on the second floor—offering panoramic views while maintaining privacy. The original stone carvings and archways on the exterior reflect centuries of urban evolution and restoration, making it a key example for studying Ottoman architectural development.

Yes, non-Muslims are welcome to visit the Rose Mosque, but must observe strict etiquette: remove shoes before entering and wear clothing that covers shoulders and knees (rental options available at the entrance). There is no ticket fee, but donations of 5–10 Turkish Lira are encouraged to support maintenance.

Visit between 9 AM and 4 PM to avoid midday prayers (Dhuhr), when the mosque is most active. Inside, remain quiet and refrain from photography—especially in prayer areas. Free multilingual guides are available to explain architectural details and religious symbolism, enhancing cultural respect and meaningful engagement.

Yes—just a 10-minute walk away lies the Fatih Children’s Museum, featuring interactive exhibits on Ottoman history and traditional crafts, with play zones and parent-child workshops. Nearby, the Istanbul Botanical Garden offers spacious lawns, a children’s playground, and shaded pathways perfect for family relaxation.

The Old City bazaars often host family-oriented craft events, such as pottery-making and kite-painting sessions led by local community groups—affordable and safe for kids. Parents can enjoy coffee at a nearby café while children fly kites or ride tricycles in the open square. These venues are thoughtfully designed for families, combining fun with cultural education in a welcoming environment.

The St. Regis Istanbul

St. Regis Istanbul delivers an exceptional luxury experience in a prime location right on the famed Istiklal Avenue. The hotel’s design and furnishings are impeccably elegant, reflecting true sophistication from entrance to room. Staff went above and beyond—especially when I requested a late checkout, which they accommodated with genuine warmth and professionalism. While the lively street below does bring some ambient noise at night, and the door insulation could be slightly better (you can hear neighboring doors opening and closing), it’s a minor trade-off for such a fantastic stay. The highlight? The private balcony in my room and the rooftop lounge, where you can enjoy a cocktail under the stars. With ample outdoor space, this is a dream spot for smokers and cigar enthusiasts looking to unwind in style. Overall, the experience was outstanding—highly recommended for those seeking both comfort and character in Istanbul.

From the warm hospitality to the stunning setting, every detail made this stay unforgettable. Highly recommend for anyone looking for luxury and convenience in Istanbul.

Istanbul Marriott Hotel Sisli

My two-night stay at the Istanbul Marriott Hotel Sisli turned out to be one of the most bizarre experiences I've had across many countries. On day one, after using the restroom, I noticed the entire inside of the toilet bowl was covered in dried urine stains—quite disgusting. I immediately called the front desk requesting cleaning, and a staff member arrived shortly afterward. He was diligent and thoroughly cleaned the area, so I gave him 100 Turkish lira as a tip—a gesture I genuinely appreciated. The next morning, during breakfast, a hotel manager approached guests for feedback. When it was my turn, I mentioned the previous night’s hygiene issue. She listened attentively, took down my room number, and promised to look into it and possibly upgrade our accommodation. I left the hotel feeling hopeful. Around 10 PM that evening, I returned and was told we’d been moved to the highest floor. I assumed this meant a room upgrade—my excitement was real. But when we finally reached the 33rd floor, things took a strange turn: the elevator didn’t go directly there. We had to transfer to a smaller elevator via the 30th or 31st floor, then walk through a narrow corridor. Once inside the new room, I was shocked—the space was noticeably smaller than our original room. Beds were pushed closer together, and we lost the desk and sofa entirely. The bathroom had shrunk by nearly half. This wasn’t an upgrade—it felt like a prank. Disappointed, I asked to return to our original room. We had to retrace our steps through multiple elevators, which was extremely inconvenient. Later, my colleague requested tea leaves be sent up. The front desk confirmed it would come promptly—but over an hour passed with no delivery. Only after I called again did someone finally arrive. Throughout the entire stay, the two hand soap bottles on the sink remained dusty, untouched by housekeeping. Even worse, during the final two nights, I found a mysterious stain under the bed cover when I lifted the blanket—too tired to complain, I just avoided that spot. Another incident involved the lounge server: when I asked to settle my bill, she ignored me completely—no eye contact, no response—even after three attempts. I had to step outside to smoke a cigarette before returning and standing right in front of her until she finally handed over the invoice. I paid in cash. To be honest, this experience fell far short of what I expect from a five-star hotel. Service, cleanliness, and facilities were all subpar. Despite giving at least 100 TL in tips daily, I got very little in return. If you're considering a Marriott stay in Istanbul, please look elsewhere. This property offers terrible value for money.
